    IMHO with headphones, maybe less with IEM, but to some degree also, this is all not "etched in stone". The anatomy of the ears, combined with the small volume of the "listening room" (space between transducer and eardrum) makes it more individual than many might think. So, with all due respect...

    I think it's both. Paying more for an AV Preamp than a "full" AVR is another symptom of this "sickness". As a manufacturer, you won't be inclined to develop new products, if you can't expect making much profit with them. So, low demand = low production = high price.
