Akitika GT-108 Stereo Amplifier Kit Review

This is a review and detailed measurements of the Akitika stereo amplifier kit. It was purchased preassembled by a member and kindly sent to me. As you see, the case is rather simple but for a kit, it is not bad. That large power switch is reassuring, giving you the feeling that it could...

Erin's Fosi ZA3 Review and Bass Management

As I commented in the other review thread, folks trivialize addition of subwoofers. As you experienced, you can be in a world of hurt the moment you do that and saving a bit of distortion from your mains may be the least of your issues. Any addition of subwoofer must, let me repeat, must be...

Was anybody at the Sean Olive talk at CanJam?

He did but until they use it, they are producing useless analysis.

Was anybody at the Sean Olive talk at CanJam?

It makes intuitive sense. If you have lost your high frequency hearing and you boost the bass, you might think the overall balance is wrong. Someone who hears both ends of the spectrum will not face this. As I EQ headphones and speakers, I frequently run into this in that I boost the bass to...

Was anybody at the Sean Olive talk at CanJam?

What does "using" mean? As long as they throw out target curves that are not shown to be correct in human studies, they are producing worse results, not better. You can have the world's most accurate measurement rig but if you don't have a reference of what the response should be, it is for not.

GR Research Klipsch RP-600M Upgrade Review (speaker)

Simplest explanation is that Steve creates informercials for companies, masquerading as reviews. He likes everything he reviews. He is good on camera and comes across and sincere and trustworthy. But there is no factual foundation to what he does. FYI I have tested nearly 200 speakers so if...

Audio Science Review is not listed @ Wikipedia.

Hey you all. How about we take another shot at creating a Wiki page? I am thinking of a short, matter of fact page about what we do. There are now Wiki pages that link to us (MQA, Tidal, Schiit). I have my AES paper. Sean Olive's headphone paper refers to ASR. As does the AES paper on 5128...

JBL Conceal C83 Invisible Speaker Review

My pleasure. These are actually "high-end" solutions in this space so deserve a bit more credit than that. :) But yes, visual aspects need to be non-negotiable before you go into solutions like this.

JBL Conceal C83 Invisible Speaker Review

It would be but if it is not seen, I would get a normal in-wall speaker that also mounts flush to the wall. The JBLs are for scenarios where there is nothing in front of them and you want to not see any speaker.

JBL Conceal C83 Invisible Speaker Review

The frequency resolution of our hearing is not that great so narrow ups and downs are likely not audible. So i think it is correct to say that subjective experience is better than what is measured. Here are the Manufacturers Specifications:

Opening up a small boutique HiFi shop in retirement?

We started Madrona with a retail side and custom. Due to former, we had to get space in a retail area which has much higher rent. Then spent $200K remodeling the place. Lost a ton of money and closed that down a few years later. If you listed 100 businesses you could get into, I would rank...

JBL Conceal C83 Invisible Speaker Review

This is a review and detailed measurements of the JBL Conceal C83 "invisible" speaker. It is on kind loan from a member and costs US $1,100. As the name indicates, this is basically a flat surface that you cut out in the wall and "tape and mud" the edges. Once painted, it can be made to look...

Fosi Audio SK02 DAC & HP Amp Review

From memory, standard 2.0 spec for USB is 0.5 amps at 5 volts. This is 2.5 watts and should be enough to power SK02. So I don't think it needs anything special. I powered it from the hub in my monitor which is what I always use for testing.
