    Genelec 8030C Studio Monitor Review

Thanks all together for the input, very helpful. As I am very sensitive to hiss, I would assume I'd definitly use the -10 dB switch if I go with the G Threes - does this affect the soundquality in any way? I heard some people say, Genelec sounded "best" never touching the sensivity knob on the...

    Genelec 8050B Review (Studio Monitor)

I feel like the best use of money in that range is 2x 8030 + 1x 7050 + MiniDSP Flex + UMIK-1. Gets you 99% of the way to a 8330 and 7350 setup if you don't mind spending some time learning to make a DSP filters in REW.

Speaker upgrade from 8010a for near-field use + home theater

I currently have a pair of genelec 8010a speakers that I was using for near field desktop use at a distance of 1.2m or 48 inches. However, I feel that these speakers are lacking in the low end, so I wanted to address that by either upgrading them or adding a subwoofer. I'd like speakers that...

Genelec G Three B and Genelec 8030C, not the same speaker. A measured (but somehow informal) comparison.

Thanks a lot. So the standard sensitivity on G3 ( without lowering 10 db) is equivalent to +4 on 8030? I understand that both can be connected to an audio interface or to a hifi preamp; my impression was that the rotary knob on the 8030 would allow more "fine tuning" given the multiple options...

    Genelec 8020D + subwoofer 7040 or Genelec 8030

Hello, hello! Recently we decided to buy a pair of active monitors to improve a digital piano (Kawai ES 920) and for ambient music. I went to Neumann KH 80 DSP but after a week we find it unusually boring and not so clean in highs. From many speakers we tried, Genelec 8030 was the best in...

Are passive volume controls totally transparent?

Thank you both @antcollinet and @Blumlein 88 for your advices! Let me abuse a little bit more, this time for subwoofers to my home 8030C setup: -1 7050 8inch subwoofer (deep in lows, advised by Genelec to 8030) -A pair of 7040 6,5 inch subs (not so deep but more homogeneous low frequencies...

    Subwoofer advice please

Glad to read it sounds ok for your room size, mine is even smaller and probably will extend the 7040 low end to 30 Hz. Did you measure your room respnse? If yes, can shear it? I have the same monitors (home version G Three), thanks!

    Neumann KH120A or Genelec 8030C?

Very nice combination, I have a pair of 8030C now and speculating about which subwoofer will be better for me. I use to listen classical, jazz and rock music often, never electronic ones. My first choice was 7050B but reading your post I’m wandering if a pair of 7040A will give more controlled...

What speakers do you currently own?

Great combo but only *very* nearfield-ie desktop.

Genelec G Three B and Genelec 8030C, not the same speaker. A measured (but somehow informal) comparison.

SPL is the same on both devices. G Three has 10 dB less sensitivity which allows you to increase 10 dBu the signal to obtain same SPL. Having them side by side during 3 weeks, G Three sounds more clean once setting 8030C input gain + 4 dB. This is a subjective affirmation but to me and my...

What speakers do you currently own?

How about your 8010 + 7040 combo? Thinking about one of those to my work room, I have a pair of 8030 cpm as main speakers. Probably can switch the 7040 from one to another room depending of needs.

Are passive volume controls totally transparent?

I think it depends. If there is somewhere in the room where one sub has pretty even response the bigger sub would do fine. If not, two might allow you to create a smoother low end, but they'll probably not be symmetrical in their placement. A bit of work, but you probably could figure it out...

Nearfield Decisions for Mixing - Around £1k

We have a winner. Pair of 8030s arriving today. My decision was based around a few things: - I don't want to rely on software to control the speakers. Different laptop/OS/support/whatever might cause unknown problems in the future. - I wanted something reasonably portable & full-range for the...

Personal experiences with small ~4" desktop speakers and subs?

What did you finally get? I’m arriving to final of 30 days Thomann free period with 8030 and 8020, and still doubt. For my subjective point of view 8020 is a better choice for casual listening and enjoying, it has more “fun” bass and some points of shining low highs, but is less linear than...

    Genelec 8020D + subwoofer 7040 or Genelec 8030

Humm, perhaps you’re right, I love so much Genelec 8030 sound: never get tired listening. After my last response I re-listened carefully to both speakers (8020 and 8030) and applied the -4 dB low shelving on both speakers (I was using only -2 dB filter). The “humm” that distributed me...

Need Monitor Advice for a Challenging Small Room

I don’t listen over 70 dB very often, surely it can provide enough energy in a little room. Genelec calculates well this kind of solutions, apart from good results that other member obtained (he posted excellent FR response and reasonable SPL with the Genelecs 8030 and a 7040 on similar size...

    How a subwoofer affects soundstage?

My living room is 4x3 meters, I think that one will be enough. I finally keep the 8030s (have both 8020 and 8030 to compare) that fill quite well my room. As I red in other post, one member also get a nice flat response with adding the 7040 to the 8030 monitors, and as him I don’t want to go...

The beginning of my audio journey, help and advice

I have Genelec 8020D and Genelec 7040 sub. I don't know if sub is an option because of the size and potential disturbance to the neighbor. The combination sound really nice. Other option without the sub, would be Neumann KH 120II. They go deeper than the 8030 and are similar size. Previous...

Neumann MA-1 calibration for complicated room

For me it's worth every cent, not because of how easy it is to be integrated with the 8030, but that in my space it basically takes up the valuable leg room beneath the desk, so the slimmer the better. and in my really tiny room (around a parking lot size), with all those concrete wall loading...
