    Hypex Nilai500DIY Amplifier Review

The Nilai500DIY's measured performance is almost perfect. Any improvement in a future generation will be very marginal - measurable, yes; audible, absolutely not. I see no reason to wait.

You're overthinking this. The difference in sound between competent DACs is way beyond human hearing perception when properly level-matched. DAC output voltage levels need to be appropriate to the input sensitivity of the power amplifier. Most modern power amps have selectable input...

    Hypex Nilai500DIY Amplifier Review

It does of course, require an additional PSU: https://kjfaudio.com/product/hypex-ps500diy-power-supply/ And it needs to be borne in mind that >250 W output is only achieved into speaker loads <8 ohm.

    Hypex Nilai500DIY Amplifier Review

I have a whole shelf of rare single grain whiskies from 30 to 48 years old, most of them from now silent distilleries, plus some nice malts.

    Hypex Nilai500DIY Amplifier Review

The AHB2s were (unsurprisingly) sonically indistinguishable from the Hypex (this is abundantly clear from the measurements). Yes, Class D has higher harmonic distortion starting around 10 kHz, but the first harmonic of 10 kHz is 20 kHz, so it's inaudible. The AHB2 resale value enabled me to...

    Hypex Nilai500DIY Amplifier Review

After buying two of these, for two of the channels in my active setup, I replaced both AHB2s in the other channels with the stereo versions. The proceeds from the AHB2s paid for all of the Hypex amps with cash to spare.

Battle of RCA Cables: Mogami, Amazon, Monoprice

Aged 55, I still have hearing perception up to 16 kHz. How about you? RCAs need to be really incompetently designed to measurably, let alone audibly alter the sound. https://audiosciencereview.com/forum/index.php?threads/message-to-golden-eared-audiophiles-posting-at-asr-for-the-first-time.17598/

Different optical or coaxial cables will have no effect on the sound.

Battle of RCA Cables: Mogami, Amazon, Monoprice

No RCA interconnect is worth $200. If you have a fetish for audio jewellery, by all means, knock yourself out, but any competently designed and assembled RCA interconnect will sound the same.

Matching ultra high-end speakers with a (good) cheap amp?

Eesh, that FR curve is shocking! The crossover design/driver choice leaves a lot to be desired.....

    Power amplifier recommendations.

Nilai 500 stereo will give all the power you need. The mono gives more power, but only into lower impedance loads where higher current can be delivered. Power delivery into 8 ohm is voltage limited.

Need some help with active speaker conversion

No, it was carbon fibre. The desktop speakers are in line for a carbon fibre/red polyester fabric skin:

Need some help with active speaker conversion

I currently have a working 3-way speaker with a fully active crossover. Individual driver FR and phase correction with linear phase FIR filters and fully ZDP time-alignment. Sounds great to my ears, and spectacularly better than the passive xover version. There's still room for improvement...

Battle of RCA Cables: Mogami, Amazon, Monoprice

Sorry, I should have expressed it better. I appreciate that OCC is a widespread manufacturing technique, but claims of superiority with regard to audio copper cabling are nonsense. If you search OCC or Ohno Continuos Casting, a substantial portion of the references that turn up are in relation...

Battle of RCA Cables: Mogami, Amazon, Monoprice

OCC is more marketing BS and snake oil. The difference between OFC and OCC isn't measurable, let alone audible. OCC is only discussed in relation to "high-end" audio which should tell you everything you need to know.

I would also consider Mitch Barnett's Hang Loose Convolver for hosting the filters. You can switch seamlessly between filters with zero delay for comparison purposes.

What do you think is the standard price for HI-FI, HI-END?

My comment verges on sophisticated trolling, or the discussion generally? Nothing high-end about any of my rigs. All of my speakers are DIY, apart from a pair of Emotiva Airmotiv B1+ in the gym. Secondhand Motu Ultralite Mk5s as multichannel DACs in my main and desktop setups, affordable Class...
