Wilson Audio Speakers: Why do people like them?

I'll put it this way: The obviously flawed ATC SCM19 V1 measured here has an Olive score of 4.8. The very poor performing PMC Result6 has an Olive score of 2.8. One has to try to make a typical monopole speaker get below 2.

Wilson Audio Speakers: Why do people like them?

So did Dunlavy, and the off axis of those speakers was pretty bad. First order slopes make pretty looking steps but that's about it. The lobing, especially vertically, is really quite bad.

Wilson Audio Speakers: Why do people like them?

    Easily, they're super gaudy.

    PreSonus Sceptre S6 Monitor Review

This is worse than typical directivity error which if nothing else is predictable - this isn't following a relatively monotonic trend.

    PreSonus Sceptre S6 Monitor Review

Was Keffalo involved with the Presonus Sceptres? Also the D5s were the first monitors I ever owned. Not... Great, lol.

    PreSonus Sceptre S6 Monitor Review

I've seen a bunch like this. Now-defunct Equator Audio had a bunch like this, like the Q10 seen here: These did indeed use horn loaded CDs mounted coaxially inside of woofers. Not a choice I'm entirely sure of, but hey.

    PreSonus Sceptre S6 Monitor Review

I believe this has a compression driver for the tweeter, which would explain the high H2.

Do KEF Aluminum cone speakers have a serious design flaw?

This is entirely a non-issue in reality. People were hitting these things hard, long past the point of the drivers complaining audibly, for the diaphragm to fail like that. https://www.avsforum.com/threads/kef-ls50-blew-both-drivers.3173473/ If you want output, don't buy a small 2-way...

MoFi SourcePoint 10 - Review & Measurements by Erin

Probably not, other than the treble adjust switch, unless they changed some filter values at the same time. I'm not familiar enough with the filter design to say if they have or haven't changed it.

    JBL 305P MkII Review (Erin)

Active speakers are fed line level signals, not speaker level. The amps are inside the box. 2.83V is something like +11dBu, that's quite a hot signal. 0.3V is closer to typical consumer line level for 0VU, which is -10dBV.

PreSonus ERIS 3.5 Gen 2 Powered Speaker Review

These speakers are powered, not active, so they have around the same level of meaningful control as a passive speaker with some rudimentary EQ.

Springs Under My Speakers: What's Happening?

The frequency response measurement there is limited to 300hz, so any meaningful changes where isolation from the structure might actually do something aren't even in the measurement. I'm not entirely sure what they were aiming for here.

Springs Under My Speakers: What's Happening?

Let's not pretend a speaker as anywhere near as punishing an environment as the inside of an engine. Anyway. Spring loaded stands would act as a high pass filter. That's what's happening. Not coupling to the floor.

And it's not as though this is an improvement over the first generation, which is equally sucky. Courtesy of Erin...

I believe this is +/-3dB, but don't quote me on that.

PreSonus ERIS 3.5 Gen 2 Powered Speaker Review

Looks remarkably similar to Erin's review of the Gen 1, which he also rated quite poorly, and for the same reasons!

    Cheap alternatives to speaker stands?

Cinder blocks are actually an excellent choice, all things considered. They're quite non-resonant (metal stands can quite literally ring like a bell if excited the right way unless you fill them with sand or something), they're cheap, and as long as you cover them with some sort of fabric, they...
