Klipsch K-402 another controlled directivity horn

Per the specs of the driver I am using, at 110db at 1khz the third harmonic is down about 55dB. That is 0.18% distortion. At 500hz it is down about 50dB or 0.32%.

Klipsch K-402 another controlled directivity horn

I think Klipsch has a slightly different version of the K510 now that has what they are calling mumps. Not sure on availability of it. The ebay horn is supposed to be good. I think I saw a few posts from people that compared it to an original K510 and didn't see/hear a difference. Certainly low...

Possible solution for DTS/Dolby/Atmos+eARC+HDCP to AES/EBU - via Dante? (for Okto DAC8PRO etc)

Does the Audiopraise VanityPRO perform decoding? I don't see that listed in the specs. To me it reads as if the source needs to decode to LPCM and then it will take that and output it digitally.

Klipsch K-402 another controlled directivity horn

Are you talking about the non-linear distortion that can occur at higher SPL levels more typical of sound reinforcement? JBL testing for that was at 107db. FWIW, my drivers are 1.6" exit.

Klipsch K-402 another controlled directivity horn

He is looking at the 15" woofer and basically picking a place where you could try and match the power response of the woofer (which has begun to beam) to the power response of a horn. Speakers interact with the room and if at all possible you don't want a widely different power response between...

Klipsch K-402 another controlled directivity horn

I have no direct experience with the ES290 so this is just going by what I can see in the measurements. It should easily go low enough for your Altec's, it likely goes considerably lower than needed too. I cross my Lascala's over at 500hz which is a 15" woofer in a folded horn. What he is...

Possible solution for DTS/Dolby/Atmos+eARC+HDCP to AES/EBU - via Dante? (for Okto DAC8PRO etc)

I'm working through something similar but to get 8 channels of high def. into a QLI-32. In my case, I have a couple of devices I am going to modify for 8 channel out over 4 SPDIF and then either put that into the QLI-32 directly or input the SPDIF into the BSS boxes. I have a couple of different...

Klipsch K-402 another controlled directivity horn

It won't go as low, it hits 500hz fine but drops from there. I've been running the K510s for about 18 years. I think Roy Delgado posted polars way back when on the Klipsch forum but I can't find them now. My K510s are actually prototypes I bought from Roy. There are knockoffs on ebay now for...

Klipsch K-402 another controlled directivity horn

Smaller version of the K402 is the K510 which is a 500hz horn. I use them in my 2 way LCR LaScalas.

Cupping hands behind ears while listening - WOW!

If you really want to break your brain, and are listening to stereo, try holding a mattress upright in front of your face pointing forward. It will increase the channel separation at your ears and that will change your imaging pretty dramatically. Carver's Sonic Holography, Lexicon's Panorama...

    Blind testing amplifiers.

If you have an ABX testing box you get to choose if you are listening to A, B or X for each trial in a test. You can switch between them as often and as quickly as you like. When I start a new test I typically just jump back and forth between A and B to determine what I think is different...

    Bass direction is audible

The purpose of Bass Enhance on Lexicons was to increase ITD to simulate the effect that a large hall has on bass.

    Bass direction is audible

I will have to try measuring distortion on my subs at some point. I know my old Contrabass was rated at 1% distortion at 114db. But that was also a strange beast in that distortion rose at lower levels due to belt/motor noise. My current system has (2) 6' sealed cabinets with 2 Revel Sub1500s in...

    Bass direction is audible

Yes, it is a shame that Harman hasn't done more with his work and research in home products. Or Quantum Logic Surround for that matter. I haven't heard L16 so don't really know how it compares to the Logic 7 in bedford Lexicon products. I know JBL also had Logic 7 Immersion in at least a...

    Bass direction is audible

There is some research about other auditory clues from multiple sources of bass. Not exactly directionality but more a sense of spaciousness and envelopment. Dr. David Greisinger researched this while at Lexicon and added functionality to Lexicon processors to try to reproduce some of the...

Which multichannel music upmixer do you like ?

Logic 7 via MC-12HD. I waffle a bit on the center steering setting (music/movie). The reduction in comb filtering on vocals is great with movie/film. In the earlier version of L7 (DC-1- MC-1) I tended to prefer the music setting as the Film setting could be a little less stable on music. If you...

Synthesize Additional Channels in a Home Theater (like StormXT) with a BSS Audio DSP

Jumping in late but I am starting to work on adding a bunch of BSS boxes to my system. One is the SDEC 4500P which is a Blu-160 with a JBL SDEC configuration loaded in it. Part of the processing in there is to create height channels. Looks like they mapped out front height and rear heights but...
