    A700 LE versus LS60

Detail can be a lost even when room doesn't boom because it has been equalized because those bass notes that resonate are slow. The room builds up the resonance, and the resonance also dies out slowly. 500 ms type of times and beyond are typical for low frequency resonances. This is from my...

    A700 LE versus LS60

I'm thinking that what you need is measurement microphone and some parametric equalization to bring down the booming bass notes. I have +20 dB around 35 Hz in my living room, and I was never able to make bass sound correct until I saw the measurement and then I knew what had to be done to...

    A700 LE versus LS60

Sounds like room issue to me to be honest. Booming is the result of room, not the speaker. The only crime the speaker does is provide enough output at low frequencies to make the room resonate.

Yes, I would say so. My possibly incorrect interpretation of the issue was that used to be a noise gate type of technology on these devices where they cut power to tweeter in case playback signal is at low enough level, in order to make the speakers silent. Apparently, the gate was initially set...

    Are active speakers still worthwhile?

I wonder if "matching" the amplifiers is a concept that actually has an operative meaning. I think in the past when output impedances were high and imperfections rife, there was much more effect from finding an amplifier with e.g. reduced treble output to pair with speaker with hot treble. But...

Kali LP UNF vs Edifier MR3

If you have side wall very close, you may be better off trying to involve it as little as possible, so narrower dispersion speakers could be better the choice, and I'd also turn the speakers as far away from the wall as possible while still retaining enough treble -- literally too far past the...

I've Adam D3V on my desk, on top of microphone stands to gain some distance to that reflective surface. Calibrated with REW. Sounds almost exactly as good as about 30 times more expensive Genelec units, except there's no low bass from them. It feels to me like sound is 90 % just acoustics and...

    Are active speakers still worthwhile?

    1. You can repair devices, provided it isn't welded shut. A generic electrician is likely able to figure out if a cap has busted, transistor shortcircuited, or a chip broken down. This line of thinking seems to contain the assumption that you would not repair the amp, but rather would buy a new...

I understand what you are saying here. We could define a more refined formula that would take advantage of all the measurement points on the entire spherical radiation field, if only Erin, Amir, and other people who have access to the scanner device would publish the full data. A challenge of...

@pierre (and any others). I hit into a thing I'm not sure is entirely correct in CEA2034 calculation code. I wonder if anyone is capable of enlightening me. This comment is possibly an excerpt from example source code and data references from the CEA2034-A document which defines Spinorama...

I experimented with a vue application which I set up on https://alankila.github.io/spinorama-html/ This is a bare bones parser that can handle exactly the ASR & EAC "SPL Horizontal/Vertical.txt" files and constructs the various graphs from these two files, with a TypeScript port of the cea2034...

I looked into spinorama's repository. I figured out that you have to install ImageMagick, run env.sh to create virtual environment, activate it with .env/bin/activate and then execute scripts/setup.py, then update_website.sh which seems to orchestrate the construction of everything. Output data...

Today, spinorama fails to execute on Firefox. The error in JS console is: Loading module from “https://www.spinorama.org/js3rd/fuse-7.0.0.min.mjs” was blocked because of a disallowed MIME type (“application/octet-stream”). The file seems to be fine, but its server-provided datatype is not...

Try to learn REW and room treatment physics or just enjoy the music?

Oh. To the OP: it is perfectly acceptable to just hold microphone in hand, rather than involve some kind of object that contributes sound reflections to the microphone. Your body does some damage to the measurement, and it isn't entirely reproducible, but get the mic far away from your body and...

Try to learn REW and room treatment physics or just enjoy the music?

Hello, some comments. Figure out what's doing the distortion on right channel around 200 Hz. Is something rattling? The horizontal lines are echoes in your left channel. The earliest is mere 2 ms after the main impulse. Right channel is much better, though it also has that 2 ms issue. Sound...

Try to learn REW and room treatment physics or just enjoy the music?

Oh yes. I made a mistake there. I just think that people tend to usually look at the dip in the bass as the problem, when often it isn't a null, it's just a frequency that is not significantly aided by a resonance. So it's the peaking around the "dip" that are the real problems. Once you can...

I think most people don't understand how to read these responses. I look for what the roughly anechoic level seems to be. I'm guessing it could be roughly around 76 dBSPL in this case, or at least I'm going to run with this claim until I see separate channel measurements which are more reliable...

Don't use vertical orientation with UMIK-1. Point them towards speakers, e.g. middle point, for stereo setup. The vertical orientation file is not measured but modeled, and I have found it to be quite inaccurate for precise work especially in treble, it is easily 1-2 dB off more than the mic is...

My last post -- sorry for hijacking the thread nearly entirely. Those that have Linux and want to play with the effect, can build my version of EasyEffects. https://github.com/alankila/easyeffects/ I named the plugin "Crosstalk Canceller", and it is right next to the Crossfeed that does...
