Bookshelf versus center channel speaker. Advice or old thread?

It may be very naive of me, but my impression of David is that he would give the answer he honestly believes so I don't think his answer has any selfishness element at all, but again that could be me being overly naive. I also think that there is some logic to the idea that center channel...

Bookshelf versus center channel speaker. Advice or old thread?

I asked the same question on Ascend's forum and got an answer from the owner that I think is fairly definitive:

Bookshelf versus center channel speaker. Advice or old thread?

I'm sure this must have been discussed previously, but my minimal searches failed to find anything beyond a short discussion from a year ago of MTM versus bookshelf. I'm building a dedicated audio/home theater and will have room for placing a bookshelf in front rather than a center channel and...

Unfortunately the GIK Visualizer program is a bit above my pay grade to try and learn how to utilize. I have tried, but no luck. So . . . does anyone following this thread no of a simpler program that would allow me to sketch up a very simple 2D diagram to play with the space. My biggest...

    Revel F35 Speaker Review

First nice room! But as to F35 vs F36 it simply depends on whether or not you have a subwoofer. If you do then an F35 is plenty in my estimation, but if you do not have a subwoofer than I think you will find the F36 a little more enjoyable. Anyways, just my opinion. I do, however, own both...

Best speaker for sound stage under 4k

I can not speak to anything I have not tried, but 3 of the 4 I tried I feel fit the bill, and all have excellent spinorama data to support that subjective view. The Ascend are just over $4k and the F226s are way over. but the F36 is cheap and would do the job nicely I think. The Revel F35, F36...

@EERecordist Not sure how much of a disappointment this will come to anyone bothering to follow along over the coming months, but the truth is I am a lazy hobbyist and have always taken the lazy approach to my hobbies (take a look at my sump room back when I had a 240 gallon saltwater aquarium...

I've never heard of drywall that could move. How did you attach the drywall to the studs and what would you do differently? Do you by chance have a picture of the room?

Looking briefly at your thread I'm thinking you're already at a PhD level and I'm still in kindergarten. Wow, very impressive. Not sure I'll ever go to that level of detail, but thanks for the link. Certainly opens my eyes to another avenue in the hobby. Of course, I shouldn't be surprised...

Is there a sub $10k speaker that would beat or equal all $20k+ speakers in a blind test?

Yeah. Even though I'm a retired pilot with 40 plus years of experience the 340 is a handful single pilot. Lucky me I actually taught my wife how to fly (that's how we met - I was her flight instructor) so she makes a fantastic co-pilot and seriously reduces my workload when we fly.

Yep even raced for a few years until I had a bad accident and realized I wasn't as good as I thought. You can skip to the end of the video if you want to see the accident that made me give up racing and stick to track days. That's awesome that you're learning to track cars. I tell everyone...

I guess I shouldn't be too surprised, but the giant can of worms I just opened is a bit intimidating. THIS I'll need to take some time with . . . phew. Thanks everyone. I'll of course keep the thread updated as I learn and make decisions :) Already got the sim. :D They are unbelievably fun...

I have zero idea of what a professional would cost, but wouldn't a pro build blow out my budget?

I'm a firm believer in the old adage that it's not what you know that will give you trouble, but what you don't. With that in mind I'd love lots of input on this project. I hope folks here will bear with me and not groan with "another 2Sunny thread - ahhh" but take part in this conversation...

Is there a sub $10k speaker that would beat or equal all $20k+ speakers in a blind test?

Really if I boil this down to what's of interest to me, it's to find out whether or not those who claim they can hear the difference between a $10k speaker and a $20k speaker is true hence as I mentioned above I'm having the Blades delivered to a third party for professional testing so I will...

Is there a sub $10k speaker that would beat or equal all $20k+ speakers in a blind test?

I did not, but you got me thinking to give it a try to see if I then DO hear a difference. I suspect even just not using a sub would make a difference as well. Would be fun to be able to pick out the more expensive speaker especially considering the F226 is roughly 3 times the price of the F35.
