I have both. 1.The zen can is no doubt an upgrade from the Zen dac with EDXS. Just about everything improves soundwise 2. The balanced out on both units is audibly better than SE, so the cable is an obvious upgrade and worth the 60 IMO. (get a pure cobber one though) 3. That said, I would agree...

Sounds like a defect driver. The first pair I had I returned. And though mine wasn't as obviously faulty as you describe, it was similar with lack of subbass in the left driver and around 2 db in the rest of FR. Got a new pair and still had some slight imbalance across the FR (around 0.5db) but...

I had a similar problem (left channel playing lower) with the zen stack EDXS combo. But for me it's the amp. When I switch R&L cable on the headphone the problem inverts.

Happy you are satisfied with them. How is soundstage and timbre compared to the LCD-X? What do you use to run them?

Yeah they really don't need much eq. By the way this it with the stock cable. Im getting a balanced pure OCC copper cable. I suspect the treble to behave better with this, taming some of those peaks a bit, but will see. Wave theory complains about this in his video and seen others state the same...

Look pretty similar yes. Except for the bass. I have a 3 db peak at 28-30hz (a shelf also works) i find the harman too elevated and bloated, but they benefit from a slight boost in the sub. The slight raise in the midbass I personally like so I leave it be.

ifi Zen CAN Review (Headphone Amp)

But didn't you say volume was the same from RCA and 4.4mm? Or did I misunderstand something?

The upper mid and treble settings works pretty good removing any shout and sibiliance. (I have the 3k dip at 3350 instead and the 4750 at 5k. But the 4+db 1750hz is way off. I have a subtle +1-2db at 1350hz and no dip at 1k like this one. The bass is also no good imo. A 3db peak at 30ish db does...

I have this setup (zen stack+EDXS) and I think when I'll get my balanced cable I'll be quite happy and satisfied for a while! I already am, just that I know the Can sounds quite a bit better in BAL. And then down the line when I have the money to spend I'll probably get an amp upgrade as I...

So yeah after doing this test I can confirm crosstalk. But only audible at my peak listening volume but still very subtle. Different story with the 3d button. But that's deliberate crossfeed. They say they achieve this effect analogue, so maybe this design causes some of that slightly elevated...

ifi Zen CAN Review (Headphone Amp)

Don't know if this has anything to do with anything. Guess you know this, but the RCA of the Zen dac outputs 2.1V in fixed and 3.2V in variable mode. Switching to the variable mode it gets louder by a margin. Is this because of the higher voltage going in to the Can? I would guess so but if the...

Thx, so more current equals less distortion before clipping? And how can you compare these measurements when the one measures thd in % and the other in db? I can see the graph and that it doesn't raise distortion before clipping.I just dont get why use different measures when measuring the same...

    Hifiman Edition XS

Maybe you've noticed a lot of people on different forums saying this HP(and in general low impedance planars) needs a lot of current to drive properly. I'm not talking about the basic requirements to achieve a certain SPL. I guess you don't believe in this as you keep referring to how loud it...

    Hifiman Edition XS

I know it gives you the power requirements for a given SPL. It is still not what I'm asking
  16. M

    Hifiman Edition XS

To my understandig this only tells you how loud the HP will get. I have the Zen stack so Im perfectly aware that they get loud enough from the SE output of the dac. Not the answer I'm looking for.

    Hifiman Edition XS

I did a balance test yesterday and couldn't hear bleeding but maybe it was not loud enough. I'll test it with the method you described and see if I can hear anything with the EDXS. So maybe this whole Zen Stack discussion has gone a little off topic, but it mainly comes down to whether this amp...

    Hifiman Edition XS

So it can't be fixed switching to a different input ie. BAL interconnect? And could this cause imbalance issues as I'm still getting a 0.5ish db imbalance from the amp no matter the setting. I don't know about crosstalk or if it's only measurable not audible in this case? But with an upgraded...

    Hifiman Edition XS

Ok, that's what I meant thx for clearing that up ;) What input are you using? Heard about crosstalk with the Stock RCA cable (ie Amirs review), so if you haven’t upgraded to a better RCA I would start there. It also makes a huge difference to the sound! The stock one is utter garbage as I just...

    Hifiman Edition XS

I'll go check out some of his reviews then. but from reading different forums and post, different opinions etc It's very unclear how much power/current it actually needs. Some says it's sufficient with a dongle some says it needs 2+ watts and others that it need a lot of current not power. ´But...
