How many on ASR don't runs subs of any kind.? & why.....

My system is 2-channel only, and I don't have enough room for 4 of them in my living room. They're 75" tall, 15" wide, 27" deep, and 330 lbs each.

How many on ASR don't runs subs of any kind.? & why.....

I don't run subs because I really don't need them with my Dunlavy SC-V speakers; they're spec'd at -1.5 dB @ 20 Hz. With room gain 16 Hz organ pedal is no problem in my living room. I've thought about buying a pair of good sealed 12" or 15" subs, but really can't justify the expense. I have a...

    Dunlavy Speakers

What does that do to impulse and step response? John Dunlavy used only 1st-order crossovers because 2nd-order and higher store energy and make the impulse and step response look like garbage.

    Dunlavy Speakers

Not so easy to do in the analog domain, especially 25 - 30 years ago when the DAL speakers were released to the world.

    Dunlavy Speakers

It'll be interesting to see if they got the impulse and step response as perfect as JD did with his designs; step response and impulse response were everything to him.

Sheffield Lab Albums - yay or nay?

I was looking at one of my copies of Missing Linc - Volume II the other day and it reminded me of your comment. They had rented a 2nd lathe (Neumann) for the sessions to use in tandem with the Scully/Neumann lathe at The Mastering Lab; Side 1 went smoothly, but Side 2 was a real battle. If you...

EverSolo Z8 DAC & Amp Review

I built this about 7 years ago when I was doing a lot of editing with Lightroom with a triple monitor setup, so I made sure it had plenty of horsepower. I started off with a 1920 CPU and 64 GB of RAM and 3 or 4 years ago went to the 2950x and another 64 GB of RAM. I'm down to 2-27" monitors now...

EverSolo Z8 DAC & Amp Review

That was a direct copy/paste from the error window that popped up in Foobar2000. I did get the Z8 to do DSD512 for a while, but it had clicks and glitches at times. Not sure what's going on since the DAC is plugged directly into a USB 3.0 port on my X399 Taichi MB, not through a USB hub. Maybe...

EverSolo Z8 DAC & Amp Review

I received my Z8 earlier today and I'm extremely happy with it! I unboxed it and had hooked up and playing in a couple minutes, just install the driver and swap of cables from my previous DAC to the Z8. I've been playing a bunch of my favorite audiophile and test tracks all day, redbook CDs...

    The Dunlavy interview (1996)

That's what John Dunlavy had been working on, but never was able to bring to market. The speaker below was called the Millenium (also never brought to market), and supposedly what the Magnus was to look like. They might have even been the same speaker with a different name. ‍

    Dunlavy Speakers

I think my B&W 802 S3 were much more finicky with positioning, toe-in and head-in-a-vice listening position than any of my Dunlavy speakers. It took me many weeks of constant tinkering with positioning to finally be happy with the 802s. My SC-IIIs were a piece of cake by comparison; I put them...

What makes speakers "disappear " and can it be measured?

What are your panels made of? I built some 2' x 4' x 4" panels using 2" thick Owens-Corning 703 insulation boards and they do a nice job of taming first reflections. I've always wondered what would happen if you put a panel between the speakers turned 90-degrees so it sort of acts like a...

    The Dunlavy interview (1996)

True, but they don't seem like they've really done a whole lot, at least from what I've seen. I would like to hear the new Princess model though.

    The Dunlavy interview (1996)

The results would have been spectacular if he'd been able to bring them to market. It's a shame that nobody has picked up where he left off with similar designs, but with the advantages of DSP and other advancements in the past 15 - 20 years. If I ever win a big lottery jackpot I'm starting a...

    Teac UD-501 - a reference DAC?

I dug my old UD-501 out of the basement over the weekend and hooked it up; I'm pleasantly surprised at how good it sounds. I don't remember when I bought this unit, but I think it was around 2017, which replaced a Teac UD-301 I'd had for 2 or 3 years. My UD-501 hadn't been for almost 5 years...

    Dunlavy Speakers

It's nice to see somebody else with their SC-Vs positioned very similarly to mine, though mine might be even a little closer to the corners than yours. JD recommended placing them on the long wall, but I can't do that due to the placement of doorways and the length of the short walls. My living...
