Do You Miss Knobs and Dials and Switches?

Yes and no. My amplifier with a smooth face looks really nice. Like art. No remote. No meters. The two knobs and power switch on the big AV receiver makes for a clean and purposeful appearance. The remote has all the buttons I could ever need. But I do miss the switches and knobs on the...

Can anyone explain the vinyl renaissance?

I understand your point. I'll take a look at a thread or two i have no opinion on and try to do an objective recon.

Can anyone explain the vinyl renaissance?

Really? You have a definite blindspot for the digital crowd. This thread has by far more defensiveness as well as greater knee-jerk reactions to vinyl and innocent pro vinyl comments by the digital side. Or maybe more vocal or sensitive digital side shall we say. And I am a proponent of...

Can anyone explain the vinyl renaissance?

"Renewed interest/renaissance in Vinyl? It depends how you measure that." That is probably a true statement but begs the question "How does one quantity it"? If 100000 enthusiasts start listening to their collections and fill threads about their rediscovered joy wouldn't that qualify as a...

Can anyone explain the vinyl renaissance?

I'm not so sure about "in touch". I suppose that can mean many things to many people. For me I'll use the subjective adjective "immersed" which is probably just as non-specific. How can I say this? Digital is sonically better than my vinyl but can feel sterile and neutral. Which isn't...

Technics SL-1300G New Generation Grand Class Turntable

Sometimey per several buyers reviews. So I wouldn't buy it for that feature.

I have a restored 1500 in the system. Those VU meter bulbs are soldered in place BTW.

Is a line contact stylus (Shibata, Microline, Special line contact) a bad choice for worn or damaged records?

I think many serious LP owners maintain(ed) good housekeeping habits - cleaning records, cleaning stylus and keeping dust covers down. Then there were the groups that used surface treatments like Soundguard. Remember that one? Zero stat guns and carbon brushes. My old table has a carbon...

Is a line contact stylus (Shibata, Microline, Special line contact) a bad choice for worn or damaged records?

You've all given good information to chew on. Looks like removable headshell and potential shibata. I'd do fixed if there was substantial expected life. For those using line contact what's a best guess for hours of life? Given the time I did listen years ago and subtracting streaming...

Is a line contact stylus (Shibata, Microline, Special line contact) a bad choice for worn or damaged records?

The pitch esthetics don't bother me. It's we are paying for something few if any use.

Is a line contact stylus (Shibata, Microline, Special line contact) a bad choice for worn or damaged records?

I saw that on their site. $3,300. No cartridge options. But buyers at this level shop for their own. It surprised me they didn't go for something more exotic than an aluminum S tonearm. I looked weeks ago for a scratch and dent 1210G grand on my favorite store but said to myself "What are...

Is a line contact stylus (Shibata, Microline, Special line contact) a bad choice for worn or damaged records?

Yeah, I think that decreasing return arrives at your doorstep fairly quickly. If one has a lot of money and I'm talking private plane wealth I can see buying that "only 100 of these will be made turntable". I have no statistics but feel $2-5k is pretty much the ceiling for getting out of an...

Is a line contact stylus (Shibata, Microline, Special line contact) a bad choice for worn or damaged records?

Good point. I could be wrong but I don't see myself doing much cartridge swapping. Perhaps naively i am wanting to pick something that puts me over the line of performance concerns. A star performer with dismissable cons. Paired with the right tonearm = my last TT.

Is a line contact stylus (Shibata, Microline, Special line contact) a bad choice for worn or damaged records?

Thanks. I just started studying Mike70s at33ptg. I'll look at the 95ML. For now I'll shelve the MMF-9.3 due to its fixed cartridge design. There is a $500 sale on their goldring eroica lx setup (elliptical) but if pursuing line contact works mush on. As for publishing samples I've no test...

Is a line contact stylus (Shibata, Microline, Special line contact) a bad choice for worn or damaged records?

Seems one is making a commitment buying the line contact and even more so if fixed. I do not have enough expertise to comfortably go down that road. Like having to swap the engine in that new car because it's not working out. I need to listen to the setup(s) with one of my albums.

Is a line contact stylus (Shibata, Microline, Special line contact) a bad choice for worn or damaged records?

This designs reads more of the groove and has reportedly better high-frequency response. However will it not also reveal more of the wear and damage to the grooves? I would think this could and would add (considerable) unwanted noise. So is a high end detail revealing cartridge and old LPs a...

Tuning a catridge. How much effort do you put into it?

The Technics are removable headshells unlike the fixed Music Hall so choosing the correct cartridge is critical there. Thus the benefit of the cartridge arriving mounted with Music Hall. I've only dealt with removable. For all their better performance I keep hearing how difficult it is to...

Tuning a catridge. How much effort do you put into it?

A ton of great advice. Thank you. There are high and low output MC. Since the higher would need less amplification wouldn't that mean less induced problems? Don't laugh but one table that got my interest is the Music Hall MMF- 9.3. The table ships with the Goldring Eroica LX, Ortofon...
