Strange DAP / DAC Foepoe UD951C - DSD Multichannel support?

Thank you very much for sharing your impressions on this unit as I meanwhile cancelled plans to buy and test one myself and got me a new Marantz (Cinema 40) instead. What you described of not decoding 5.1 signals properly is the excact the use case I wanted to try this unit for: Feeding my old...

    Pioneer VSX-LX505 AVR Review

Seriously?? So there's no HiRes Audio over 48kHz when using an AVR or an AV Processor with e.g. Dirac? What about pure/direct stereo? I mean, not that I could hear the difference, but anyways.

    Pioneer VSX-LX505 AVR Review

At least the DACs are working in pure direct mode. As far as I know there are very little AVRs or Pre Processors that circumvent the DAC completely routing an analog signal all the way as analog through to the pre outs. At least not the LX505. Than I suppose you still have the OP-Amps in place...

Master Thread: Are Measurements Everything or Nothing?

...and now, as the question has been moved into a thread with a 675 pages of discussion, I'm optimistic I will find my answers somewhere whithin here. There's no question which hasn't been asked before by someone else. Or answered :)

Master Thread: Are Measurements Everything or Nothing?

I totally understand what you're saying and I mostly agree with everything you say about metrics, sound quality, etc. From a technical point of view this is completely correct. But that is not the question here. The bottom line for me as a consumer (not as an engineer) is whether the poor...

Master Thread: Are Measurements Everything or Nothing?

What I don't understand right now is the following: How comes that a unit fails a measurement test big time, but is still considered as one of the best sounding devices 'out there'? Marketing BS and bought or influenced reviews aside, there's still some devices like the Emotiva RMC-1, which...

    Pioneer VSX-LX505 AVR Review

For me I don't want to have two different sound systems. I only one living room and I like to listen to high quality music as well as to immersive movie sound. So I'm the typical Don Qichote trying to get most out of my AVR, hence I know it will never sound as good as a good analog stereo...

    Pioneer VSX-LX505 AVR Review

As far as I know both the RZ50 and the LX505 have TI 1690 Burr-Brown DACs on board (as stated by youtube's ripewaveaudio channel). Also I heard/read several times now that due to the design of an AVR most units do an analog->digital conversion anyway. So it's quite useless to feed an AVR via a...

    Pioneer VSX-LX505 AVR Review

Seriously? That's really odd. Never heard about this before. But then again... well, if the manufacturer tells me to do so and the outcome is crap, I'll sent their unit back. No buy, not sorry. Thank you for this hint!

    Pioneer VSX-LX505 AVR Review

This was in pure direct mode. I could have checked it, if I've had any clue there existed something like a protection mode. And yes, since I sent the unit back it is too late to check. Do you mean the upmixer? I've tried it and it did not sound bad, but I prefer listening to music in pure...

Strange DAP / DAC Foepoe UD951C - DSD Multichannel support?

I stumbled over this unit when looking for a surround processor, preamplifier, AVR or any other replacement for my old Marantz SR6007 AVR. The UD951C comes with 3x ES9023P DACs and is sold at aliexpress ( https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005007458787699.html ). It‘s design is ugly as hell...

    Pioneer VSX-LX505 AVR Review

I have the Piega Premium 701 Wireless/Active My old Marantz SR6007 sounds way smoother. Almost too smooth again, that's why I'm looking for something new right now.

    Pioneer VSX-LX505 AVR Review

I've had the LX 505 for a couple of weeks, but sent it back in the end because of mainly two reasons: 1. It sounded too harsh in the higher mids for my taste. At least on my speakers. 2. Playing music with higher volume levels the music became more and more less dynamic the higher the volume...
