    Ascend Sierra-1 V2 Speaker Review

I had both speakers, and the 12.1 is very nice for the price, but the Sierra 1-V2 is easily a class above. If you want more vocal emotion, try something like classic Rogers speakers. I recently found a pair of LS6a's, and they have been described by some as a poor man's Harbeth.

MiniDSP 2x4HD limited to 2 channels of Dirac correction?

When you get to the Volume Calibration tab, note that there will be only two channels shown. This is because the miniDSP SHD Series/Flex/DDRC-24 are stereo Dirac Live processors. They treat each speaker combined with the subwoofer as a single channel. There is no separate Dirac Live channel for...

    Revel M105 vs. M106.

The crazy thing is that I have a set of the S1-V2's, and to me, sound-wise (I actually love the way they look) they are a toss up vs the M16's, and at least for me it seems the M16's are more forgiving of placement and easier to integrate with a sub. I found the Sierra's a bit more finicky, and...

    Revel M105 vs. M106.

Honestly, it's mostly about looks. I love the way the M16's sound, but not the biggest fan of glossy black (even less so of glossy white). If there is only a negligible improvement, then it's probably not worth upgrading. Thanks.

    Revel M105 vs. M106.

Are you saying that there are better speakers for less than M16's?

    Revel M105 vs. M106.

So going from M16 to either of those is probably not worth the upgrade? Diminishing returns?

    Revel M105 vs. M106.

A little bit of a tangential side topic, but what about the M16 vs M105 OR M106?

    Ascend Sierra-1 V2 Speaker Review

I had the same thought process until I got them. Now I'm sure the LX's are better, but I am not lacking bass (but I also use a sub, and haven't listened to them without one yet). In fact, I've had to dial back the sub a bit since swapping these in for my previous Revel M16's, which are no bass...

I have to 100% agree on that point.

Fosi Audio BT20A Pro Amplifier Review

I have a BT20A Pro, and the subwoofer out has worked fine with 2 different subs (Sony SA-W3800, and Rythmik FV12). Maybe it's the cable you used? I am using a 3.5mm TRS aux to dual RCA cable, with the red RCA going in to the subwoofer (white RCA just dangles).

    Ascend Sierra-1 V2 Speaker Review

I think the reason they look that way is because the image itself seems to have been cropped around the speaker, so you only see the white background and no shadows there, just on the speaker itself. Zooming in on the picture, it looks exactly like the speakers I have (with texture and shadow)...

Also, on the individual product pages there is a tab called "gallery" which shows the speakers in different finishes and from different angles.

    Ascend Sierra-1 V2 Speaker Review

I have some limited experience with both. They are somewhat comparable in my opinion. The M16's have a prominent bass hump around 100hz that took me a couple of weeks to get used to. After about 5 weeks of listening -- I find them very good, though a bit on the clinical side for my tastes. The...

    Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 Review (Speaker)

While not an "official" review with measurements and data, I do have both the 12.1's and the 12.0's (of which I literally just finished setting up in my guest bedroom). The 12.1's are a pretty standard sized bookshelf speaker with a 5.25" woofer. The 12.0's are definitely smaller. I originally...

    Do Audio Speakers Break-in?

I don't mean to argue for or against mechanical burn-in of speakers or other components, but I did want to share my own recent experience with burn-in that definitely opened my eyes (or rather, ears)... I had (and still have) a pair of Wharfedale Denton 80th Anniversary speakers that I loved...

    I swapped Ls50 for an R3 meta ….im I imagining

I might suggest -- continuing to play with placement. I audition and change speakers quite often, and best placement/height/angles for those speakers vary as well. Also, give your ears time to adjust. We get used to what we hear, and it takes time for the brain/ears to adapt to a different sound...

    Ascend Acoustics Sierra LX Review

I get you, but... 1) I'm not sure if Amir does this or not, but even if he does, pulling 4 screws to look inside the woofer hole is not really a big deal. Also, you only send one speaker, not the pair. 2) You are absolutely correct on this point. All I can say is that a brand new speaker should...

    Ascend Acoustics Sierra LX Review

I would semi-agree with you, but after: 1) manufacturer measurements (possibly not entirely trustworthy as of course they want to project the best results). 2) (assumed) independent measurements (such as Erin or Amir, to confirm manufacturer's results or to show the less flattering results). 3)...
