Horn Speakers - Is it me or.......

Again, I'm no expert but where I side with Newman is that with constant directivity horns-as opposed to exponential horns where dispersion narrow towards the the higher frequencies-while they may cause more late (sidewall) reflections this can (subjectively) enhance the sound by creating...

Comparisons with DSPNexus? While this may be a bit off topic, one expert on DAC design at diyaudio.com, though unable to gain access to the DSPNexus's clocking, output stage, power supply schematics or at least looks at the pc boards, said that based on its top optional model AKM DAC chips the...

Horn Speakers - Is it me or.......

Yes, it's not clear whether Lewis and Celestion would also target this waveguide technology at the consumer or even DIY audio parts user market. But however well the too huge for me Klipsch K402 horns performs in this regard, the two competing performance parameters Lewis Mac Donald cites-HF...

Klipsch K-402 another controlled directivity horn

I think Pierre crossed those Radians in the Athos TH4001 horns with his TAD woofers between ~ 725 and 775Hz. https://www.diyaudio.com/community/threads/jmlc-and-yuichi-horns-measurements.395046/page-3#post-7253984 It all seemed to work for him well in the end...

Klipsch K-402 another controlled directivity horn

If the 1.4" Radian 745neoBe is a poor man's TAD beryllium, what is it about its design that would negatively impact the sound in a two-way system, assuming the (passive) EQ was perfected to flatten and extend the HF response? https://www.usspeaker.com/radian%20745neoBepb-1.htm

Klipsch K-402 another controlled directivity horn

Yes, the K402 is also too big for my room and even to sit upon my midwoofer cabinets safely. But why did Klipsch apparently discontinue the K510 horn? Cask05 referred me to this knock off...

Klipsch K-402 another controlled directivity horn

And does Cask05 mean that any horn which can reproduce 900Hz with wide dispersion (no audible beaming?) will work, though some better than others and/or with other unrelated performance advantages?

Klipsch K-402 another controlled directivity horn

Thanks for a simple answer for a non-expert, which I might not get from Cask05 here. https://www.diyaudio.com/community/threads/smallest-footprint-horn-and-driver-that-can-reach-500-hz.321521/page-13#post-8022282 I'm still too much of a non-expert and no kind of diyer, as Troy will be using...

Klipsch K-402 another controlled directivity horn

Thanks for your reply. I've tried to find directivity charts on the K510 but no luck. Do you think they would resemble Troy Crowe's version of the A290 horn? https://josephcrowe.com/products/3d-cad-plans-for-es-290-biradial-horn-horn-no-1670...

Two Way or Three Way Compression driver horn speaker

That said, I thought about using my NOS drivers https://www.usspeaker.com/radian%20745neoBepb-1.htm Those drivers would need pretty heavy EQ to flatten and extend their HF response, though Pierre said that it's not too hard to get done tightly for a two-way speaker, even using all passive...

Klipsch K-402 another controlled directivity horn

Great looking directivity plots of the K402. Would you know what size room that horn would typically be used in? Might there be a next smaller version of this horn? And what would its Fc be?

3 way active with real punch.. which way would you go.? Pro driver or .?

Thanks, as I was worried because if I don't used these midwoofers with one of those two Audiohorns I will be using it with this combo: https://josephcrowe.com/products/3d-cad-files-horn-no-1994-es450-biradial-for-jbl-2446-2-throat 16 ohm version of this midrange...

3 way active with real punch.. which way would you go.? Pro driver or .?

Can't resist; the driver shows the typical problem with the surround at about 600Hz: https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0142/2848/8292/files/Altec_416-8B_100L_Sealed_95dB_50Hz_and_above_480x480.png?v=1695411148 How audible might the IM distortion be at 600Hz at ~ 75 to 80db from 11 ft? My...

3 way active with real punch.. which way would you go.? Pro driver or .?

I'm very impressed by Audiohorn's approach to horn design, though I'm still plowing through this. https://audiohorn.net/sciences/critical-distance/ Meanwhile, what are the criteria for choosing between the X-40 horn and the biradial horn? Audiohorn recommends specific drivers to use with...

    Super tweeter

I think the jury's still out on this, as there seems to be ample evidence that such a judgement call is a matter of degree. Even brands known for good sounding gear at very affordable prices offer multiple DAC models. but where the cost and profit levels of even the lower priced models would...

    Super tweeter

Great info. Thanks! My problem with DSP is if it will end up at least doubling the A/D. D/A conversions in the system. Why not use active analog crossovers? That is what I may do with my second speaker build if the learning curve of software like that VituixCAD is not very steep.

My problem with DSP is if it ends up doubling or tripling the A/D, D/A conversions in the system. Why not use analog active crossovers?

    Super tweeter

And is one of the things that DSP might make a lot easier (not for dummies but for very newbies) is to help you design a passive crossover, for say a two-way speaker? That is, when you use DSP to dial in the crossover frequency and slope (e.g. attenuation rate??), might miniDSP, or other such...

    Super tweeter

While I applaud and am well impressed by your extensive experimentation towards perfecting directivity of the T925A tweeter, would success absolutely depend on a DSP solution? I'm still working to finalize a midrange horn and driver for the two-channel main speakers, but they and the midwoofers...

    Super tweeter

What worries me about a three way are warnings from thread members at diyaudio.com about lack of coherence. And while it may help improve the T925A's performance in other respects, this waveguide will likely to nothing to overcome placement limitation issues...
