I'm aware of that limitation. It basically boils down to: "I hope they don't need the full capabilities of the speaker". Further hammering this point is that the brother-in-law seems to have settled on a 68dB at MLP, which I assume is on the lower side for a home theater. I think in theory, I...

    My 1st home theater.

I thought I mentioned something very similar at least back in November. But if it's worth reminding. Is $9999 a reasonable budget to work with for a 9.2 channel home theater if it also includes price of TV and AVR? However, more accurate would likely be a budget of $8000 since we already have a...

    My 1st home theater.

At 1st, I was afraid of the situation where I showed sister the Q Concerto Meta in a walnut finish, and the very 1st feature she comments on, is the finish. But on the other hand, brother-in-law reassured me that I shouldn't concern myself too much about it since he'll likely apply the finish to...

No. I don't know how to either. Edit: Brother-in-law also said desired listening volume at MLP is 68dB for all that's worth. Edit 2: This may be what I may need to negotiate the most. The couch is currently set up so that MLP would be at 4' from the wall. I can only push it about 2' forward at...

    My 1st home theater.

So I just managed to measure 22*11*8' on the room. Also, since my last visit the TV gained 10" of diagonal length, giving it a 75" diagonal length... I wonder if, at some point, I may have to discard the idea of a center channel anyway unless it, straight up BLOCKS the screen.

As said before. Because of the nature of being planned so far ahead, I'm trying to gauge how much it's worth saving for. At least I feel like as long as I don't reach the 5 digits. I wouldn't feel particularly uncomfortable about the budget. Also I guess it couldn't hurt buying the Q6 meta...

FWIW, I think what I looked up as a quick reference was $3700 for a KEF Q series 5 channel system. Couldn't tell you what the price of the rest would be. But if I have to buy instead of DIYing, I'd probably go with a pair of RSL Speedwoofer 12S which would total $5300 before sources. That being...

    My 1st home theater.

So... Dunning-Kruger effect? Also, to my understanding, center may not be that necessary. At least I heard and read a lot of stories where the home theater owner must go out of their way to prove that they DON'T have a center; either that or they have a center but reveal the plot twist that the...

    My 1st home theater.

Hi. 1st actual post here after lurking for like 3 years or so. Sister told me brother-in-law wants to eventually set up a home theater, but both are currently not the most financially stable, so it hasn't been a priority, and I am still getting trained for the job at brother-in-law's workshop...
