Here is one from 'Baby' Rudin that shows that there are gaps in the rational number system.

    The Courteous Vinyl Playback Discussion

Thanks for the replies! I'm processing away ... @mike70, It makes perfect sense to upgrade the cartridge. :) I used Grado's 30 years ago and it does not look like they have changed much. The vm95ml is cheap enough to be a no-brainer. And the vm540ml is well within reach. @Bob from Florida, I...

    The Courteous Vinyl Playback Discussion

(Is this the right spot for this question? -- I DO respect the TT deeply - that's why I put this here :) Hi! l am music and gear lover in the 'hello boomer' age category. I have been learning a lot at ASR over the years, and I am very happy with my digital system. Now I would like to start...

Extron XPA 1002 Plus Amplifier Review

It is great to see Extron measure so well!, But I'm not surprised. I used Extron for many years in pro audio, video, and a/v. We relied on Extron in many mission-critical situations. The stuff worked 24-7 year after year. Extron, AMX, Crestron, etc. are oriented toward installation, where...

Question about how to connect a genelec installation

My room is 20x20x13.5ft (6x6x4m). It has a vaulted ceiling with an average height of about 13.5 ft. Right now it is untreated, but I have a set of bass traps coming around the end of July :) Genelecs always sound good to me - I have used them for many years. I like them off axis and at low...

Question about how to connect a genelec installation

Sorry! I should have sent this link instead. the NADITBNC-M gives 75-ohm unbalanced in (S/PDIF) to 110-ohm balanced out (AES). I use a F-RCA to M-BNC adapter and a 75-ohm RCA-RCA video cable from Amazon. Here is a quick picture. (The Apollo is not part of this, it's analog only)

Question about how to connect a genelec installation

I use this passive device from Neutrik to convert from S/PDIF to AES, Canare also makes one. (edit: forgot the link) S/PDIF is an unbalanced variant of AES_3. A 'hat' is the term for an add-on board for the Raspberry Pi platform. I use the HIFiBERRY Digi2 PRO to get S/PDIF out of my Pi 3...

Question about how to connect a genelec installation

I have 8440's and a 7360. I use them in both analog and digital mode. Lately, I listen mostly in digital. I either stream from a R Pi with a spdif hat or from an interface with spdif. The digital connection to the Genelecs is pretty robust, and I have gotten it to work with cheap unbalanced...

Topping D90LE - SINAD measurement (with E1DA Cosmos APU Notch)

Thank you so much for this write up! I just got my APU but I haven't started using it it. The timing is perfect :) I also have a Cosmos ADC ... any reason you used the RME instead? (Edit: For the AES output?)

Topping D10s + E1DA Cosmos ADC as a measuring system

Hi @AnalogSteph ! Do you mind if I ask what software you use to make diagrams and run simulations? I'm getting started with my new Cosmos ADA and Topping D10s and I need to update my software 'arsenal' ... just REW for now.

Topping D10s + E1DA Cosmos ADC as a measuring system

Hi Ivan! I guess I'm both a practical DIYer AND a big-headed-perfectionist :) So far, I have not noticed a coorlation between ports and PC-PC performance, but I'll keep an eye on it. What about using the Cosmos with a Mac ( an old one 2015 ... Yosemite)? I tried it and it sort of worked, but...

Topping D10s + E1DA Cosmos ADC as a measuring system

The magic ingredient! I get much better results when I run the D10s off my old Mac laptop. It is also fun to see the effect of AC and DC power. I have not seen much about using the Cosmos with Mac. At first glance, it kinda works, but I need to investigate further. I lucked-out on this one...

Topping D10s + E1DA Cosmos ADC as a measuring system

I am such a person! I just got my Cosmos and D10s. I hooked them up first thing this morning and here are my 'hello world' first measurements. Unfortunately mine do not look as good as pma's :) My physical set-up is similar, BUT I don't have a USB isolator. Are the big spikes below 1k due to...

Wow! Genelec GRADE looks amazingly useful

Thanks everyone for sharing their GRADEs. Here is the report for my room, which is 20ft x 20ft with a 12.5ft vaulted ceiling. I have a set of room treatments coming at the end of July, so this is the 'before' state. It's interesting to compare these reports side by side. I am also starting to...

Watches! What do y'all have on your wrists?

I have been 'into' watches for 30 years. This is my favorite. It has run for 20 years without service! Most fine mechanical watches need to be serviced every 2-5 years or they stop running. I have heard that the NASA watches run without lubrication in space.

    I need a new mic-interface-laptop!

I was thinking of a mic-pre combination mostly because that is what I'm used to. If I use a USB mic, how do I feed the device under test?

    I need a new mic-interface-laptop!

I was just getting started with REW and measurement, when my 'test' system was stolen. Gone is ... An old mac laptop, an M-Audio interface, and (ouch!) a sE8 small diaphragm condenser mic. And a book about Charlie Watts! I needed to get a new measurement mic anyway. One option for the...

Getting To Know REW and GLM

Thanks so much, ernestcarl. I'm not sure how to properly credit you ... I'm new to this internet stuff :) It is great to know that I’m starting out on the right foot! Your feedback and the REW manual have taken me much further down the line to understanding what the data say about my speakers...
