    7Hz Salnotes Zero IEM Review

I have to wonder how loosely people are defining "seal" then, since these are definitely loose in my ear and I got a massive improvment in bass with the high-gain mode in this headphone amp.

    7Hz Salnotes Zero IEM Review

I think this headphone's bass response depends more on the headphone amp than one would assume. I use a Topping E2x2 with these often and when I use the high-gain mode carefully I get the bass support I am missing on the normal gain mode, which even gives transients more support to pop. I had...

    Topping E2x2 Audio Interface Review

Thank you for that analysis. I'm wondering if some mods will crop up over time. I spent more time thinking about this yesterday while using it. I set to monitor mode on the input, which sends directly to the headphone out, and then recorded into a muted track in my DAW. I do believe that the...

    Topping E2x2 Audio Interface Review

Having played with it a lot yesterday, the input gain definitely seems analog. I would really like to see the designers figure out how to maintain linearity at max gain for the mic inputs in future versions, and give us more gain because it is a struggle to get the sm57 dynamic to -12dBfs for...

    Topping E2x2 Audio Interface Review

I'm beginning to question whether these input gains aren't digital after all. I have plenty of evidence for the main line out and headphone volumes in their documentation, but haven't seen any for the input knobs, I just kind of assumed. Do we have evidence for these being analog? The reason I...

    Topping E2x2 Audio Interface Review

I believe it's analog on the device itself but obviously digital in the software mixer. The meters on the front are responding to realtime analog signal as well supposedly.

    Topping E2x2 Audio Interface Review

I've been very happy with my e2x2 now that I've had more time with it and am actually spending time trying to record with it. I was mostly using it for my quaint little mixing nonsense before. I can't believe I slept on the fact that the zero latency monitoring for inputs is directly controlled...

    Sony MDR-7506 Review (Headphone)

What were my complaints about mixing with them? I consider the stereo image too narrow because of a hyped center that masks the sides a bit, especially in comparison to the HD650 and Salnotes Zero which have essentially crystal clear sides with a more balanced center within the overall image...

    Sennheiser HD650 Review (Headphone)

I do have to admit I've reached an age where using headphones makes me feel too disconnected from the world for whatever reason, so not sure I'm much of a headphone guy these days either. I'm usually just playing whatever I'm listening to from the speaker of the phone in my pocket as I'm...

    Sennheiser HD650 Review (Headphone)

I like that minimalist approach. I had given up on digital EQ a couple months ago. I'm trying to have the approach of having multiple headphones and understanding the character and response of each as they are, so I am cool with these having less bass, but as a result I'm not using these very...

    Sony MDR-7506 Review (Headphone)

Basically these headphones have a hyped center image which strongly masks the sides for whatever reason. The best way to explore this in comparison to other headphones would be through a VST plugin by RJStudios called True Mid/Side which allows to separate or alter the volume of the "phantom...

    Sennheiser HD650 Review (Headphone)

I got an HD650 a week before I got a Salnotes Zero and they nearly sounded identical to me outside of the better bass of the Salnotes. I've made my case for keeping the HD650 because they are infinitely more comfortable to me for longer use than the Salnotes, but I am enjoying how similar they...

    Sony MDR-7506 Review (Headphone)

I tried mixing with these for a long while, but the stereo width is so narrow that I consider them nearly mono. I think this suited Andrew Scheps style because I had listened to a few interviews with him where he was talking about how he never worries about mono compatibility and I think the...

    Topping E2x2 Audio Interface Review

That is probably a Dynamic Mic. To not add distortion, would need a device like a "Cloudlifter" to raise the volume of the Mic instead. Another thing about your test, is that you covered the side of the mic with both headphone drivers, which is probably the cause of the wobbly phasing when...

    Topping E2x2 Audio Interface Review

So do those 32 Ohm headphones distort with the high gain button off? I expect them to distort with it on. Basically anything 32 Ohm and under should have high gain button off. Anything over 32 Ohm use high gain, but use the output knob proportionally. Example I have Sony MDR-7506 which are 50...

What is the impedance of those headphones though?

    Topping E2x2 Audio Interface Review

Julian Krause talks about the issues with testing without mics here: USE YOUR GAIN! The TRUTH about maximum gain setting (set preamp gain properly and minimize noise) That said, I've had mine for 4 months and doubt I could get the results of Krause's tests shared by staticV3 a few posts back...

    Topping E2x2 Audio Interface Review

It seems you have your headphone high gain button on and the headphone output turned all the way to the max, so you are likely going way beyond the impedance of your headphone. These amps are very powerful, so if you ever hear distortion, you are likely pushing the headphone beyond its limit.
