Might just be the normal way to work with these amps. You can switch the internal jumper to use whatever they didn’t use (probably the onboard buffer). For example, Buckeye has this:

FYI that each NCx500 can output up to 700W at 2 and 4 ohms. A single SMPS that most assemblers are using is rated for 1200W. A pair of amps can consume more than 1400W at the worst case. At higher current situations the PSU will hold back the amps. Now, is this a problem? Probably not, but...

Interesting, before I gave up on buying a Kappa 9 a few years ago (instead I got a much easier Kappa 8.1) I didn’t think that a Class D amp could handle its sub 1 ohm areas. I suppose the answer is: get a pro amp and don’t worry about distortion ;)
