How come a sub $100 little dongle like the Fiio KA13 can offer true balanced 4.4mm out but not the DL200? How much money are they saving? (I know it makes little difference sound wise but it could ensure you'll never need more power unless you go electrostat.)

Yes, that looks like it. To know for sure, you'd have to play files with different bitrates, e.g., one with 44.1khz and one with 48khz and see if the DAC reports the correct bitrate. Btw, MPC-HC is good for movies but not the best for audio. You may want to look into foobar2000 or musicbee.

Some dacs do allow simple control like play/pause next/prev. This one could've easily done that since it comes with a remote. But as said elsewhere SMSL seems to care only about measurements, not useability or other niceties.

I have a Mac m1 running Sonoma. With a C200, there's nothing special needed to output beyond 96hz.. Device automatically recognized. The DL200 looks to be almost identical in function.

Have you tried just using USB-C/lightning to USB-C OTG cable to connect your phone to the C200?

if you have clicks or pops through USB, you can try optical if your mobo has optical out. Better ones usually do.

Hmm. I unpluged the other cable and now I haven't seen the bug again. So I don't know, I might've falsely attributed the fix to having something in both jacks when it was something else entirely. Hard to tell since the bug is so intermittent. Sorry, hope I haven't made you waste money

This may sound dumb but try putting a cable or just an adapter in the headphone jack you are not using. I.e., if you're using balanced HP cable, put an 3.5mm to 6.5mm adapter in the 6.5mm jack. Still testing, but this seems to have fixed the issue for me.
