New Emotiva XMC-2+ and RMC-1+: What is the difference, and what do you think?

Has anyone seen an RMC-1+ or XMC-1+ review yet? It is showing as available for purchase on their website. Shouldn't be long now! I'm going in circles about what to expect from the RMC-1+! I figured out that Emotiva's description of the DAC implementation is actually the same as was quoted by...

New Emotiva XMC-2+ and RMC-1+: What is the difference, and what do you think?

Does anyone know the story on the Emotiva vs ToneWinner products? I wanted to say that Emotiva developing the BasX MC1 looks like an intentional R&D process where they start with a lower spec model and apply the lessons learned to a higher tier product.... But then I looked a little deaper and...

New Emotiva XMC-2+ and RMC-1+: What is the difference, and what do you think?

Yeah, the product pages on their website seem very copy and paste. They are identical except for the parts about the DACs, which seem to be wrong now... That's why I started this thread, because how are they two different units with different prices if everything is the same? But we can't...

New Emotiva XMC-2+ and RMC-1+: What is the difference, and what do you think?

For the best bang for the buck, Amir needs a sample of the XMC-2+. The reason is that the XMC-2+ has a combination of "fully balanced" DAC circuitry using the AKM4490, as well as a bunch of channels using an undisclosed DAC chip in non-balanced configuration (i.e. stereo/ 2 channels per...

New Emotiva XMC-2+ and RMC-1+: What is the difference, and what do you think?

Well, someone has to buy one and drop ship it to Amir....when units become available to the general public. If the person is unsure about if they want to keep it or not, they have a 30 day return policy, so with a little luck Amir could test it and provide the results in time for the purchaser...

    MiniDSP Flex HTx

Are the new input PEQ's available with Dirac...at the same time? The generalized expectation of other people requesting this update was that it would be an either/ or scenario.

    MiniDSP Flex HTx

@danstahl, I misunderstood! I was focused on the input PEQ, considering each channel as a separate input. Too many different kinds of "inputs", I guess...

    MiniDSP Flex HTx

Yes, those are your input gains, and they have always been there.

    MiniDSP Flex HTx

Have you visited the MiniDSP forum? You can add that suggestion to this thread: https://www.minidsp.com/community/threads/flex-htx-input-peq.22760/ I think you can use the gain on the Channel Router tab to adjust input gain. It isn't as convenient, but I think it would achieve the same...

    PMC result6 Monitor Review

Where have we seen this type of frequency response before? Oh yes, it was the GR Research center channel. I just watched Amir's video on that the other day. There is a striking resemblence between the frequency response of the two designs!

[Edit] Why did Genelec [Do What They Did] on the 8381A?

It sounds to me like everyone is assuming the marketing department chose the 126dB max SPL, and they stuck it to the engineers to figure out how to accomplish it? And therefor the bass roll-off at 30hz is the compromise required to achieve the SPL target? But is it possible that the...

[Edit] Why did Genelec [Do What They Did] on the 8381A?

Challenged by my mistake and the generosity of forum members, I went on a quest to model a cabinet with the same size and output subwoofer as the 8381A ported subwoofer. It quickly became apparent that the 124dB criteria was the most difficult constraint. I came up with this ported cabinet...

[Edit] Why did Genelec [Do What They Did] on the 8381A?

I copied the driver arrangement of the W371A, and I added a coaxial driver. So it ended up being a mini-8381A before they announced the 8381A. And you are right, not something I would build in my basement. I built it in my garage.

[Edit] Why did Genelec [Do What They Did] on the 8381A?

Crap... Ooops... You say this, and then I start examining pictures. Now I see it. A black slot in the back of a black speaker...and almost all photos are from the front. But is it still worth asking why they didn't seek to achieve "the holy grail" of flat response down to 20hz?

[Edit] Why did Genelec [Do What They Did] on the 8381A?

As the title states, why did Genelec choose to use a sealed subwoofer section with the 8381A speaker? What is a scientific analysis of this design choice? I see the 8381A as the natural next step from the W371A, but obviously it is not "just" a scaled up version. It seems clear that Genelec...

Clean Sheet Approach for a DIY Multi-Channel + General Use System

Moving this forward, I did some quick sketching of the 3 main variations I've been considering. The answer is that it doesn't make very much difference! In my case, my speakers are pretty tall, which would be best case for mounting the speaker above the screen. But the angular offset is...

Clean Sheet Approach for a DIY Multi-Channel + General Use System

Another data point: This is an interview done at Dolby, in one of their (music?) studios. They have Genelec "The Ones" + W371A for left, center, and right. And then "small" speakers for other channels. I will probably do something similar, as in 3 large speakers across the front, and...

Clean Sheet Approach for a DIY Multi-Channel + General Use System

That is a fair point, but to be honest, things like that don't bother me. In room frequency response is never remotely flat. I can guarantee you that I would never walk into a room, hear some music, and say, "I think there is a dip at 150hz!" But I have thought about soffit mounting speakers...

Clean Sheet Approach for a DIY Multi-Channel + General Use System

My understanding is that room modes take over at ~500hz, so I would have to be convinced that 1) there is a problem needing to be solved, and 2) that any technique, like directivity or flush mounting, would fix that problem. I did experiment with cardiod bass using my speakers, since everyone...

Clean Sheet Approach for a DIY Multi-Channel + General Use System

I'm surprised by how few examples there are of this! But then, I've almost exclusively seen boom-hiss systems for the last 30 years. By full range, do you mean 20hz to 20khz? If so, that is a tall order. I know the theory for why crossing from a small speaker to a sub at ~100hz is supposed...
