Have you considered changing your carpet? Man-made fibres in the carpet may be the cause of the static that troubles you. See if you can get a replacement carpet made of natural fibres like cotton.

Maybe they expect most people to be using USB? I use USB and I have no issues like you describe. e.g. I can play DSD & DXD at very high rates, so I have no complaints on the quality of the music reproduction of the D50iii

I put it in DFU mode to do this, as instructed, and it worked OK. Except I seem to recall being stuck for some time in DFU on subsequent restarts of the DAC, but that settled down eventually.

Yes and in my case it turned out to be audio settings in Windows. Also take care because Windows can reset those carefully chosen audio settings with a PC reboot or a new Windows update. Eventually I abandoned the RCA out and now use the TRS out which has been stable fore some time now.

Re hacking. The Dolby Reference Player is available if one was to go looking for it. Re xRecode3. This useful app., is ridiculously cheap to buy a lifetime license which gives one free updates for life too.

Foobar is able to do channel mapping so I think it may well be possible to do this in Windows, & with a free player.
