If you don't use EQ I'd recommend trying that first. If you're looking for better timbre won't beat the HD600's for natural sounding timbre. If you're looking for soundstage/headstage you won't find better than H800(S) as an upgrade.

I have a d50iii can confirm, haha. You can have 5 stored and can set two different presets with various option settings including eq on the remote. Not sure about setting preset volume as I only use mine in Dac mode so volume is always full output.

Did you try setting to UAC1 then resetting the d50 iii? IICR, you have to reset DAC for it to actually change from UAC2 to UAC 1 but that would still limit your max sample rate.
