macOS app like Audio Hijack that lives on menu bar?

Correct, Element is not an audio device. It accepts input from an audio device and outputs to an audio device.

The routing is done inside Element, e.g.:

    Sealed mini speaker, 3-way

The only common trait between this speaker and an LS3/5a that I can see is that both are loudspeakers.

Forced to make a choice at gun point, I'd definitely pick number one.

    SMSL SU-1 Stereo DAC Review

I'd probably avoid the hub and just plug the DAC into a USB-A port using the cable that came with it. Leave the USB-C/Thunderbolt ports for high-speed applications like storage or displays.

Douk A5 Budget Stereo Amplifier Review

Not sure, I hadn't opened the amp to see where the heat came from (amp chip or something else). I might do that once out of warranty. It could be linear voltage regulators having to burn more power, or something like that. Upstream is just a DAC (SU-1). Downstream is a 6 ohm subwoofer driver...

    Tour of Danny's Business

I couldn't make myself watch past the point where Danny claims that the styrofoam diffusers he's stockpiling are good for breaking up standing waves... But I'm sure Jay is appreciating the extra exposure his video got from being posted here.

No, but biological species are given Latin(-esque) names. They can contain Latinised versions of words from any language.

    Dirac Live Exclamation Mark issue

FWIW, the current version of DLBC and a UMIK-1 work well for me (never throw up measurement errors) and produce good results. I'm using the stand-alone processor, not an AVR, if that matters.

    SMSL SU-1 Stereo DAC Review

No, via Toslink from a DigiFace USB. They are for the passive LR and active bass channels in a Dirac DLBC setup.

    SMSL SU-1 Stereo DAC Review

I guess it depends on whether the added features are desirable. I use three SU-1s stacked on top of each other. I like their almost-not-there appearance. They produce faint clicks on sample rate changes, but that happens only between some albums and doesn't bother me much. If I were to replace...

What's the point of floorstanding when we have subwoofers?

For me, the point of using subwoofers instead of all-in-ones is that, for best in-room response, the location where the mids and tweeters need to be is almost never the same as where the woofers need to be. In my experience anyway. An additional perk is the effortless and very low distortion...

What's the point of floorstanding when we have subwoofers?

A signal brickwalled at 80Hz will not chirp (in the traditional sense of the word), it'll be more like wobbling into existence The spectrum above was probably taken with a window size that coincides with the duration of the chirp. Hence, the FFT assumes the signal inside the window to extend...
