    Apple TV 4K sound quality

If I recall correctly, in the situation you're describing the iPhone or iPad is actually just acting as a controller, the music is not being beamed from your mobile device. I can always tell when its doing this because hitting pause will take effect immediately, whereas in beam mode theres a...

Possible solution for DTS/Dolby/Atmos+eARC+HDCP to AES/EBU via Dante? (for Okta 8 etc)

it is frustratingly common for even premium TVs (like my Samsung OLED) to cheap out on licensing and not pass through all codecs. Why the TV even has to be licensed when it isn't doing any processing or decoding to the signal is beyond me.

HDMI to digital active speakers. Why is this so hard?

Once again the Apple TV 4K cannot handle lossless multichannel codecs natively*, so this is still a somewhat quality compromised approach. Also relevant is no source-based decoder renders height/spatial channels, including the handful of devices which do support lossless (all max out at 7.1.0)...

HDMI to digital active speakers. Why is this so hard?

Of those, some can decode to LPCM and some support lossless codecs (Dolby TrueHD/DTS HD MA), but none both. Actually maybe only the Shield can, someone please correct if I'm wrong on that. I think what you want is something that not only supports BluRay audio codecs but can also decode/output...

Tell Us If You Use 3.1, 5.1, 7.1 9.1 system?

I think it’s just splitting hairs on the nomenclature, X.Y.Z suggests X and Z are all unique channels (almost certainly being reproduced by only one speaker), whereas Y is generally understood to be (primarily) sharing the same channel content. I think it’s fine as a convention and is pretty...

Master Thread: “Objectivism versus Subjectivism” debate and is there a middle ground?

I think there is always a bias toward overvaluing more readily available and understood metrics. It is relatively easy for me to look up on ASR that some Topping DAC or amp has 120 dB SINAD, where the meaning of this value 1) is readily understood by the (intended) audience, and 2) should...

Why do passive speakers still exist?

Alternatively, Power over Ethernet can deliver signal and power over one cable, and is better suited to integrate around a room than AC mains. AES67 (licensing free) can do 96kHz/24-bit with negligible latency, and recent PoE specs can deliver 70W or more per channel. This configuration actually...

    Best Ti3255 Amplifier >>>Aiyima? Fosi Audio? O-Noorus?

And thats okay, there are other reputable sources (I would mention Archimago) and ways for manufacturers to follow industry standard testing methodologies. If we're not looking to measurements, I don't know how we can even begin answering the question of "Best Ti3255 Amplifier." I don't mean to...

    Best Ti3255 Amplifier >>>Aiyima? Fosi Audio? O-Noorus?

Am I ignorant? Is the 3e A5 not the best measuring independently tested TI 325x amp? it would make for a much more boring thread but it seems the obvious answer, until its spot is supplanted anyway. The last 2 pages read like a Desperate Dealers forum thread (site's title, not mine).

Who has a 7.1.4 Atmos setup?

I'm at 5.1 and toy with the idea of going beyond, but have reservations around how much it would really enhance the experience. I've heard the ceiling bounce type Atmos speakers are not great fidelity, and it would be some labour to do on-ceiling mounts. I aspire to eventually have 7.2.4 (don't...

    Advices for a Home theater

I would forego the miniDSP and utilize A1 Evo on the Denon to get MSO-like results using Audyssey. mild learning curve to getting it set up, but should simplify things in use. Definitely go with the 3800.

spotify quality vs "hi-fi" lossless options, i cant tell a difference.

sure, but if my DSP is running at a fixed 96kHz/24-bit then by playing back files mastered on a neat multiples of that then I can ensure all the components that make up playback ARE doing so. and at the end of the day that’s the only thing I really have control over. it’s pretty low on the list...

spotify quality vs "hi-fi" lossless options, i cant tell a difference.

I have a similar feeling, I can gain some peace of mind in knowing the file heading to my DSP/DAC is exactly the file that was exported by the mastering engineer. Downsampling to 44.1/16, and then sometimes OS-forced resampling to 48kHz (Android) introduces steps I have to trust have been done...

    Denon AVR-X6800H now released.

OK, if you Dirac'd both (the most expensive path) I would use the 6800 for movies and the Node for stereo. What I would personally do is Dirac just the 6800, and connect the Node to it digitally. This does mean you're not getting a ton out of the Node though - not sure what your reasons for...

    Denon AVR-A1H High-end AVR Review

go for it  not aware of any meaningful difference between them. The X6800H's sole PCM5102A is on the final sub out since 2xES9017S=16 channels. P.S. the Masimo training videos contain some info hard to find elsewhere, worth reviewing if considering purchase (A1H/A10H, X6800H)

Spotify to launch 'Hi-Fi' CD Quality Tier.

Not wrong, I was a Spotify fan but eventually joined Tidal. Now I would probably not even join a Spotify Hi-Fi tier if they offered one. They lost my business taking so long.

    Denon AVR-A1H High-end AVR Review

If you need that many channels, there is no better option. But I'm interpreting the dissatisfied comments as speaking to the fact that there is no reason to get a flagship AVR if not for the channel count. The performance of each channel isn't meaningfully improved over a midrange one - theres...
