Top-10 Sub comparison (SVS vs Monolith)

Great point. I have the 12" Monolith which is far from the biggest here, but it's an absolute pain to lug around. 50kg, sticky feet and nowhere to grab onto. They should put handles on these things.

Revel 328 Be vs 228 Be (with small SVS 3000 micro subs)?

I don't think small subs make much sense with either of those speakers. How much speace do you have? 5500€ is a good price for a pair of 228 Be, I haven't heard then, but if you have the center anyway it's probably a sensible decision. Amir measured both 328 and 228, they are very similar with...

Please consider supporting REW by donating

Right, thanks for the reminder. I use EqualizerAPO daily with the REW-made curve, but apparently they don't want money, at least I can't seem to find a way to send them some too. I've certainly spent more money on less useful things :)

Monitor Audio RX1 Spinorama measurements (CTA-2034)

Pretty middling performance with that crossover issue and directivity mismatch, but for the money they look really good.

Geithain RL 901K vs Neumann KH420

The ME 901K seem to be the same speaker with slightly different housing while the ME 901K1 are the same with an external amp. This retailer lists some prices in case anyone is interested: https://cba-audio.de/collections/geithain @drdredd Mind sharing what you were quoted by the retails you...

Geithain RL 901K vs Neumann KH420

The RL 901K have increased only about 2000€/pair (14%) over the last 18 years (2006 to 2024), all of that over the last four years. That's actually considerably lower than inflation of 55% in Germany over that 18 year time frame and still only about half the inflation rate over the last four...

Geithain RL 901K vs Neumann KH420

Shouldn't be too hard actually, they're located only about a 75 minute drive from Klippel. They're ... slightly more expensive. Here's a size comparison between a few speakers...

    Onkyo TX-NR7100 AVR Review

It‘s not so much about performance (although that‘s objectively pretty bad), it‘s more that their specifications are blatantly false, it‘s not even close.

    IOM 500s Stereo Amplifier Review

True, but it isn‘t 1985 anymore, they’re not that rare. I would like a low gain amp to match with my RME and its 24dBu output level. Not this amp in particular, it‘s one of the weaker implementations.

    Mackie CR4 Spinorama measurement (CTA-2034)

More like running away from the speakers :) It can't be so hard to make decent multimedia speakers. The production volumes are large so development cost per unit isn't too high even when engineering something not broken.

dCS threatens with a 7-figure lawsuit over a review

British food, so I guess we're staying with the theme :) Seriously though, at those prices people don't buy these things for their performance, how good or bad it is doesn't matter. But again, same thing as with Tekton, the product did reasonably well (although it clearly has some circuit...

dCS threatens with a 7-figure lawsuit over a review

I mean, he is providing high-quality measurements, so I just ignore the subjective part. Your printers suck ... oh wait, the other one :)

    Focal Alpha Evo 65 & 80 - "Differences" ??

KEF R5 (first gen) on small stands with a Monolith 12" THX Ultra driven by a SMSL DA-9. It's a bit of a weird desktop setup born out of my former living room setup, but it works quite well. I use it for general listening. If you are sitting closer than 2m or so in a variable position coaxials...

New Monitor Audio flagship speaker - The Hyphn

Not too bad, but the KEF Blade are significantly better for a fraction of the price … which is a weird thing to say.

    Focal Alpha Evo 65 & 80 - "Differences" ??

I have a pair of 65 Evo's and have heard the first gen Alpha 65 and 80 in direct comparison, but never heard the 80 Evo, so take this with a grain of salt. The 65 Evo are quite good, they can play loud enough to fill a room and the self-noise is very low. The 14kHz peak can be tuned down with...

    Nubert NuVero 60 Speaker Review

Now if Nubert ever discovered this new waveguide technology all the kids are using, they‘d be unstoppable. The TOTL model of this series (https://www.nubert.de/nuvero-170/a042690) looks quite funny. More drivers more better.

    Mechano23 Open-source DIY Speaker Review

Quite impressive, one of the best DIY speakers I've seen measured. My only concern would be that the front baffle is quite hard to make and requires a router. At that point though it's easy to round over the corners on the front baffle as well.

    RSL 10E SUBWOOFER 299$ 300W RMS HOW?

The input level needs to be high enough, not sure if they spec it here. Auto-on/off rarely works perfectly in my experience. 94dB @20Hz is realistic for a large-ish ported 10" sub, good value for money. It certainly has flatter FR, but the 15" Monoprice has higher SPL capability...

    AKSA and other boutique amplifiers

But they're not. Not awful either, but not good. Really similar to this $200 Yamaha, actually: https://www.audiosciencereview.com/forum/index.php?threads/yamaha-r-s202-receiver-review.52587/ FR is worse with 1dB of roll-off at both ends, which is slightly audible. You can see spikes at 50Hz and...

(Europe) Master Deals Thread on Audio Product Sales

Sure, Hidden Audio runs 20% off sales several times a year as do many other retailers from time to time. Whether or not those end up being good deals depends of course, many subs especially from big audio brands are very overpriced for their actual performance.
