I just don't have a need for 'em since I no longer sit around at home listening through high-end headphones (which I've sold as well).

Sennheiser HDV-820 USB DAC & Headphone Amp Review

Cool. I don't even know why they have XLR output on this thing. It's not a DAC. I mean, it has a built-in DAC. But nobody is buying this thing to use as a DAC. It's a headphone amp. I've never actually used the XLR outs on the back. Just the XLR4, 4.4mm, and 1/4" on the front.

Sennheiser HDV-820 USB DAC & Headphone Amp Review

How are you measuring this? Like... something plugged into a headphone jack? Something in an XLR jack on the back? If it's noise introduced by your test, that's certainly something to track down ;)

Sennheiser HDV-820 USB DAC & Headphone Amp Review

Yeah. I bought it before I knew what all the other options out there were. I bought the HD820 and was looking for an amp and figured hey... Sennheiser says they "designed" this amp to pair with these headphones. I live in SF, where there is a Sennheiser store. And got to demo this combo together...

Yes. They are two different things. That is exactly my point, thanks for reiterating it for me. :)

Sennheiser HDV-820 USB DAC & Headphone Amp Review

I'm not a die-hard measurements mean nothing type. But as I said earlier, I've been using this amp for months and it sounds fine to me. Without these measurements I never would have known... Maybe I have bad ears. Maybe the bad performance isn't audible. Maybe this. Maybe that.

Sennheiser HDV-820 USB DAC & Headphone Amp Review

The HDV820 manual implies (never outright states) the output impedance is 16 ohms.

Sennheiser HDV-820 USB DAC & Headphone Amp Review

For those saying this unit is broken and should be sent in for repair, I will certainly contact Sennheiser. However I've never heard any issues with it... Maybe something broke in shipping for testing?

Sennheiser HDV-820 USB DAC & Headphone Amp Review

This is my unit. While the test results are surprising all I can say is it still sounds good lol. I've had it for about six months and compared it side-by-side with a few other amps including the Benchmark HPA4, Aune S7 Pro, Sony TA-ZH1ES, THX 789, and a few others. Headphones have been Sony...

Review and Measurements of Violectric HPA V281 HP Amp

Or one could just tighten the set screw? Or maybe Violectric can just put some Loctite on it. Or even a very thin bit of heat shrink on the pot's shaft to give the set screw something to grab. Doesn't require a total re-design of a knob lol.

Review and Measurements of Benchmark HPA4 Headphone Amp/Pre

Have put about 18 hours on the HPA4 and THX 789 now. Using DAC3-B. They sound great. No complaints other than price. 789 and HPA4 sound very close. 789 is sliiiiightly brighter/snappier on the attack of bass and drums. HPA4 is sliiiiiightly thicker/deeper overall. But this is me really...
