have you ever listened to a Naim amp? or other Naim device?

    Naim sound

I once had a Naim cd-player (CD5). Then I moved on to a harddisk player from Naim, the HDX. Now I am using Qobuz via Roon and a RME ADI2 DAC. All big upgrades. I was happy with my CD5, but I will never go back to CD's.

Should I "feel" the sound more with floorstanding speakers vs bookshelves?

Bigger woofers can go louder and/or deeper, both will give the impression of more "feel". Now it is fasion to build floorstanders when using a big woofer, but also standmounted speakers (I think that the term bookshelves is wrong) can have big woofers. To your question: no, floorstanders don't...

Eve Audio SC305 Studio Monitor Review

Although Amir tested (always) 1 speaker (mono), this speaker is meant to be used in a pair (stereo). And you can use it vertically. Both will have a positive impact on the soundstaging. I like them, just a bit expensive. I am waiting for an upgrade of this series (no, I don't know anything...

Topping G5 Review (Portable DAC & HP Amp)

Because of this reaction of Topping, I have decided NOT to buy it. Because I don't know what I will get. No product is perfect. And for this price we cannot expect much more (yes, we are allowed to dream). And I can live with this imperfection. I had almost bought it.

Bi-amping Revel Salon2 makes an ABX audible difference

If biamping or even biwiring works, then it is due to reduced intermodulation distortion. But, the mid range frequencies are still influencing the bass and the other way around. So, a 3-way speaker with 3-amping is needed. And how about the lower midrange influencing the higher midrange, etc...

Just when you thought you understood vented speaker impedance!

I always thought that the in frequency lowest impedance peak is due to the resonance of the driver plus the port together. The increased mass (compared to the mass of the driver alone) gives a lower resonance frequency. And it also explains the high excusions that the driver makes below the box...

Why speaker impedance have a peak around cross over frequency?

asume: the woofer and tweeter are perfect = behave like a resistor and have a perfect frequency response for amplitude and phase Even then such a rise would happen at the crossover frequency (if the crossover keeps the frequency amplitude response flat). Because at the crossover frequency both...

Testing Open Power Cord interference in Interconnect Cables (video)

The open mains cable is just an antenna. Ok, a bad antenna.

Bi-amp, bi-wire, passive crossover & active crossover interaction

Yes, I know. But I reacted on your "I think this fact is not well understood/appreciated." And that is about the "default" home audio situation. I have the idea that the OP is flabbergasted by the stupidity of what all is going around in home audio. Has he already discovered the snake oil?

Bi-amp, bi-wire, passive crossover & active crossover interaction

I have been in home audio for more than 35 years in many ways. I think that they all (at least most) know that removing the bridging links does NOT disable the passive crossover. That is also NOT their aim. They want to use two times more loudspeaker cable that is promissed to do miracles. And...

Using dual woofer center channel speakers as mains?

quote: "but what does 2 x 5" woofers do as far a bass response goes?" If using 2 of the same woofers that you would otherwise use single, then yes, you are correct. But, it is possible to design 5" woofers that can go low (but then it cannot play loud, so use 2). But, I think that the woofers...

    Wharfedale Diamond 12 Owner's Thread

I have the 12.1. But seeing the positive posts about the 12.2, I would love to see the 12.2 reviewed here at ASR.

RME ADI-2 FS Version 2 DAC and Headphone Amp Review

I tested it also (first had to find an attenuator otherwise I get deaf) sorry I was wrong, at -15 dB it indeed switches between lo-power and hi-power (then I don't understand the manual (or is it now available through firmware update and is the manual not updated (I also checked the German...

RME ADI-2 FS Version 2 DAC and Headphone Amp Review

are you sure that it will automatically switch from low power to high power with auto ref on? then the manual is wrong (I am always using IEM, so no experience, I can try (oh my boy, i hate the menu))

RME ADI-2 FS Version 2 DAC and Headphone Amp Review

yes, "PHONES" has 2 hardware levels no, that does not work as/with "auto ref" quote from manual: "Hi-Power active, which requires to use a volume setting 15 dB lower as usual" yes, "IEM" has only 1 hardware level edit: I tested it (see post below), it works like auto-ref

RME ADI-2 FS Version 2 DAC and Headphone Amp Review

auto-ref does NOT work on the phones levels! quote from manual: "there are no hardware levels in steps of 6 dB on the phones out" edit: although RME does not call it auto-ref, it functions like auto-ref

ideal characteristics for "background music" speakers

Ehh, the sound cancels out to the sides (sound from the front is opposite from the sound from the back). So no hugh dispersion.

ideal characteristics for "background music" speakers

many loudspeakers, in that way it is everywhere loud enough without at some places not loud enough. It also helps for reaching a louder maximum sound pressure in the case you want (for a party). mono, for making sure that you at certain places in the room you hear everything (not only the bass...
