will CDs eventually become obsolete due to no CD transports surviving?

I have to agree with @Mean & Green here: Sorry, I couldn't resist, I just had to find it. Here it is! My oldest CD. From 1983. 41 years old. John McLaughlin, Al Di Meola, Paco De Lucía – Passion, Grace and Fire G S P

Can't Decide on Amp. Nad, Rotel, Rega

Dear @AvailMail , Welcome to ASR. Perhaps it is only my impression, but you seem to be "stuck" (I don't know why) in the notion that the right amplifier will bring some kind of MAGIC to your system and everything will sound magically wonderful. You also seem to have a soft spot for the Rega...

will CDs eventually become obsolete due to no CD transports surviving?

The alleged death of CDs and CD players has been in the news for the last 20 years. Maybe more. But they are still around. I still have CDs that I bought as far back as the late 1980s. They continue to work fine. I have also backed up many of them in a HDD drive.

One of the best country songs ever written in my humble opinion. Watch Cash & Kristofferson perform it in the video below and be moved:

AsciLab speakers are about to launch

Pricing is quite competitive and reasonable. An Ascilab stand in a Hi-Fi show or a magazine review in order to raise awareness of the brand and its technical pedigree will help. And maybe things will pick up from there. Nobody knew Q-Acoustics 15 years ago and look at them now.

    Kris Kristofferson has died 88yo

In the late 1980s I bought a CD called "Elvis – The Definitive Country Album". The songs "For The Good Times" and "Help Me Make It Through The Night" as sung by Elvis, made me look up Kris Kristofferson, which led me to "The Highwaymen", and so on and so forth. The last record of his I bought...

Sound & Vision stopping print magazine

Sign of our times, I guess. On one hand, it's inevitable and environmentally friendly to switch from print to online. On the other hand, it saddens me a bit that everything is now "virtual": our documents are stored in a "cloud", magazines and books are all online, even music is streamed. It...

Great "live performance" recordings? (any genre)

Sinatra at the Sands is definitely up there with the best of them. Also, Eric Clapton - Unplugged Ellington at Newport Elvis at Madison Square Garden Eagles, Hell Freezes Over Keith Jarrett – The Köln Concert Belafonte at Carnegie Hall is technically an outstanding recording (but the...

Best way to add a mono subwoofer output with only RCA stereo out available?

NAD C389 and C399 integrated amps both take line level stereo RCA inputs and provide dual mono sub out. They also provide pre-out in case you still want to feed the Fosi V3 mono amps.

    Stereophile Recommended Components 2024

In March 2018, Stereophile was purchased, along with related magazines and websites, by AVTech Media Ltd, the UK company which published Hi-Fi News and Hi-Fi Choice. Paul Miller used to do really great lab reports on Hi-Fi News several years ago. Don't know if he still does - I stopped buying...

History of Bowers & Wilkins video

Thx for the video. Interesting to know a little bit about their history. I own their MT-20 home cinema speaker system, which has served me well since 2006. Unfortunately, B&W was bought by EVA Automation, which was bought by Sound United LLC, which was bought by Masimo (a medical technology...
