New Matrix Audio Element X2, M2 and i2 Music Streamers - Headphones Amps!!

I love my Element X and I suspect the X2 is even better. However, I use mine in a two-channel system with speakers, so I think in my case the older OLED display works better because I can read it from across the room. The X2’s display seems better suited for desktop use. Anyway, it looks to...

    Matrix Audio X-SABRE 3 DAC/Streamer Official Thread

From my experience as an Element X and mini-i Pro 3 owner, Matrix is the real deal. When I reported the minor issues I had early on, they always squashed those bugs in subsequent firmware releases. Expect those releases to come fast and furious for a short while after the product is first...

Matrix Audio X-SABRE Pro MQA: Best Audio DAC in the World?

I hope you're right, but when I use my mini-i Pro 3 to stream from Roon, I don't see any way to get rid of the album art to show just the sampling rate and file info; in other words, I'd love to be able to see the same screen while streaming that is seen when the mini-i Pro 3 is used as a USB...

Matrix Audio X-SABRE Pro MQA: Best Audio DAC in the World?

The only thing that I’m not a fan of on the new X-SABRE is that the screen is a little too small to be useful for viewing album art from across the room (I.e. when used in a hi-fi system vs. desktop/headphone system). IMHO the screen should be larger or it should stick to displaying source...

Matrix Audio X-SABRE Pro MQA: Best Audio DAC in the World?

Hmmm...I would've bought the X-SABRE 3 instead of my Element X if it'd been available. There's nothing wrong with my Element X; I just don't need the headphone outputs.

strange SMSL M500 high 3rd harmonic

At this point I recommend you return it, even if you have to eat a 20% restocking fee, and move on. The hassle to get this fixed just isn't worth it.

Am I reading Mandy's email right? Is SMSL still giving you the stiff-arm?

strange SMSL M500 high 3rd harmonic

Right. It's great that SMSL has acknowledged the problem and has committed to a fix, but it's sad that it took intervention from @amirm to make that to happen. If owners are going to have to rely on third-parties to engage SMSL for product support...well, that's a customer support strategy...

strange SMSL M500 high 3rd harmonic

The message @amirm sent to SMSL and his revised review of the M500 should get their attention. If those don't, nothing will. Good luck to all the M500 owners who are hanging in there waiting for results from SMSL.

strange SMSL M500 high 3rd harmonic

Perhaps, but doesn’t change what I said; namely, that the third-order harmonic issue only appears to affect the SU-9 and M500. @Shoaibexpert suggested it affected all of SMSL’s DACs. Whether SMSL‘s products have other issues, I can’t say. However, it’s easier to tolerate the odd QC hiccups...

strange SMSL M500 high 3rd harmonic

To be fair to SMSL, I think the issue only affects the SU-9 and M500 DACs (i.e. the DACs based on the ES9038PRO chipset). There are quite a few SMSL DACs that are unaffected.

strange SMSL M500 high 3rd harmonic

Yep, not exactly an apples to oranges comparison, but sometimes you get what you pay for. Plus, the MA being Roon Ready is something I should have sought out in the first place.

strange SMSL M500 high 3rd harmonic

Yup, ordered a Matrix Mini-i3 Pro to replace it. A little story…I was having an issue with Matrix‘s MA Player software with my Element X and their lead customer service rep IM’d me directly, sent me beta firmware, and helped me get the problem resolved after-hours on a weekend. It was far...

strange SMSL M500 high 3rd harmonic

So they're going to ignore the problem. That's real nice. If S.M.S.L. wants to live by the measurements, they'll die by the measurements. Audibility isn't the issue; meeting the advertised measurements is. My patience is up and my M500 is going back to Amazon - I just received the return...

strange SMSL M500 high 3rd harmonic

First, posting on a forum and running a business are literally completely different things -- I'm with you 100%. Second, I haven't seen any numbers, but I'll also stipulate that most posters never have and never will run a business. But lastly...business owners and forum posters have "a...

strange SMSL M500 high 3rd harmonic

OH! Then the experience you had with your Audiolab DAC isn't germane to this discussion at all! :D Actually, I did notice that you said the DAC you owned didn't have the faulty DACs, but even the units with the faulty DACs likely measured/performed correctly when it was new. Unlike the M500. ;)

strange SMSL M500 high 3rd harmonic

Again, this completely misses the point. What DACs used to cost back in the day is irrelevant, and whatever the specs of your Audiolab DAC were, it was at least meeting them when the unit was new. The M500 can't even meet its own specs, even when brand new, and I very seriously doubt that the...

strange SMSL M500 high 3rd harmonic

Since SMSL is putting you in the unenviable position of running interference between customers and them (which is a HUGE foul on their part BTW), do you know what they mean by "they will provide solutions through distributors?" I bought my M500 through Amazon which AFAIK is a factory-authorized...

strange SMSL M500 high 3rd harmonic

Sure, people are pissed off that SMSL seems to be ignoring the problem, but there's only so much outrage one can have over a $400 DAC. I could be wrong, but I don't think anyone in this thread has suggested doing anything more radical than trying to get a refund from their retailer. Heck, if...

strange SMSL M500 high 3rd harmonic

I knew my post count would come up eventually, but I didn't think I'd also be called a "snowflake!" It's a two-for-one day, I guess! Here's a tip: Ad hominem attacks never hold water and post counts are irrelevant. Besides, you're completely misrepresenting the issue. Let me help: Your DAC...
