Why do different USB ports sound different?

Since we're talking about measurements, as the "Thoughts and Conclusions" section of this webpage mentioned, how these noise levels affect DAC output hasn't been measured. That said, ground loop is a common topic for USB DACs. Like this thread...

Why do different USB ports sound different?

Amir did say it could be the voltage difference/ground loop, and he followed up with a test under better shielding and the result was better. "This is with balanced output from RME which nicely shields us from the same mains harmonics. We are talking whopping -150 dB or more for the Amazon...

I am a noob, please help me choose some headphones (<500€/$)

From what I understand, HD560S should have a good flat/critical sound signature, but comfort is not great. Some say HD 490 PRO is upgraded HD560S, and it's often praised for its comfort. So you can consider this one too.

    Android based DAPs

It seems to me you've had your answer but don't want to believe it. No, they don't use one single app. Here are some of the different apps they use: - Fiio Music, developed by Fiio: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fiio.music&hl=en_AU; - Eddict Player, developed by Shanling...

    Android based DAPs

Below are the UIs from Apple Music, Youtube Music and Musicolet on Android. Can you tell them apart from the DAP ones you mentioned? To me they all look like a generic music player.

    IEM's - Where do diminishing returns start - cost wise? $10, $15, $20, $30, $50, $200, etc, etc

That is why you need sighted comparisons. As you can't see IEMs while listening, you should look at packaging and accessories

Would people like to see 86dB distortion measurements in Headphone Reviews here on ASR, in order to bring it more inline with speaker reviews?

I like the idea. And to avoid adding more work Amer can do 3 measurements at 86db, 100db, 114db. 94 is roughly in the middle of 86 and 100. Based on general trends of existing measurements I think it's safe to assume the distortion level is in the middle too.

Topping D50 III Balanced DAC with EQ Review

Translated the Chines version for your reference: Special note: For D50III product users whose serial numbers begin with 2310, 2403, or 2405 and whose current firmware version is V1.28 or earlier, please be sure to upgrade to V1.28 before upgrading to V1.30 firmware. Directly upgrading to V1.30...

Shouldn't we upgrade the 20-20 audible range ?!

I think I understand the argument of pushing technical boundaries for engineering excellence. But this question may be comparing apples to oranges. The other examples you mentioned are on the consumer side, and they have at least some possibility of getting end user's attention. With a...

    S.M.S.L RAW-MDA1

Maybe it depends on the market. I was talking about China specifically. When searching for these brands in a top e-commerce site jd.com, we can see Fiio sells a lot more than SMSL. Note: these numbers like 15条评价 refer to customer reviews, but they should be close to sale numbers as most brands...

    S.M.S.L RAW-MDA1

Based on what I see as an end user, that doesn't seem to be the case. They have less exposure in new and used audio markets than some long-established brands such as Fiio. But maybe that's the reason. They iterate with every chip/chasiss combination to stay relevant.

Need Help buying my first DAC for iphone13

Apple dongle should have no problem driving ew200 and sounding good. But it is a bit on the thin side. If you are worried about it breaking, Fiio K11 does seem more sturdy. Sound quality wise I am not sure if you will hear any difference between the two.

Are there any hidden gems at a budget?

It's interesting that we both mentioned HE400SE back to back. But as staticV3 mentioned, low impedance doesn't mean they are easy to drive. On the contrary, they are quite hard to drive due to their low sensitivity so you'll likely need a headphone amp.

Are there any hidden gems at a budget?

There are not many choices under $200. I think one reason is that HD6XX, which is basically HD650, is priced at 199. Any headphone at this price would inevitably be compared to it, and not many can pass this test. Some budget planar magnetic headphones (like Hifiman HE400SE) are highly praised...

    "Things that cannot be measured"

I can report that the emptiness of my wallet negatively affects my perception of music by limiting the quality of the speakers I can afford. And don't get me started on the affordability of a listening room.

UMIK-1 or any USB MIC unsuitable for timing measurements?

Does anyone know if the calibration file for Dayton Audio UMM-6 mic is inverted or not? I see it's a downward slope. I just use it as is in REW. Is it possible that all my measurements are wrong?

Help me interpret the unusual HP amp specs of my audio interface

What you experienced sounds like the effect of higher damping factor due to the lower output impedance of the new amp. I was just discussing this right above your post. When the amp impedance is too high, the transient response becomes worse and the deep bass performance is compromised. But I...
