Upmixing - where are we at? Have people compared upmixers?

It might be easier to say " I don't understand how the technology works" rather than this. Dolby Stereo is dead and buried in the 20th century where it belongs. It is not coming back, and quite frankly it had its playback issues.....like not being a discrete system.

He needs something to complain about. Pay him no mind.

    Blu-ray is dying…

This is such an air sandwich. Despite Oppo offering the best players on the market, they never sold a bunch of them. Samsung and LG didn't manufacture very good players, and they didn't sell well either. When Oppo left the market, discs continued to be released and sold. When Samsung left, the...

How good do suround speakers need to be?

With Atmos out there, ALL speakers should have the same timbre and output capabilities within their operating range. Nothing is worse than hearing a pan going from front to side and changing timbre. The surrounds do not have to be the same size though.

    dolby atmos panning

Sigh. A. Sound does not move straight up and down like an elevator our ears are in the wrong places for that. If we want to hear that effect then we need ears on the top of our head and under our chin. B. The object viewer is a poor (and disingenuously used here) representation of what our ears...

The answer to that question is no. All he can do is rage against progress, opine over the past, and post links with no context. He doesn't understand today's technology; whatever one doesn't understand, they fear and rage against it.

it ain't imax its LIEMAX ! stop calling it immersion lies of audio you are all dts full of lies ! sick and tied of your BS lies ! brainwashing !

This is partially correct. There is no disagreement in standards when mastering disc and streaming content - they are usually done at the same time at least at my studio. SMPTE sets standards for this, and the content providers do it for streaming according to their platform standards. Most...

That mix was encoded into one of those crappy codecs the codec hater mentions. Get your facts straight my friend. Disney started doing nearfield mixes first, then Sony followed thereafter. Not all movies are released with nearfield mixes, and I would dare to say you would not know which movies...

When somebody blames the codec instead of the mix, that person fundamentally misunderstands how things work. Laserdisc is a dead format, and their stereo tracks were not always that good. Lastly, people complaining about home mixes have never heard a theatrical mix played back in a small room...

For one studio it was 2000, others followed after that. The mixes are not a problem; there are too many good ones.

Frustrated Streaming Movies no longer in Atmos

Both DV and Atmos require licensing fees for their usage on streaming platforms. To cut costs (which they are doing big time now), you have to pick which you want to use, and which to ditch. The studios have decided that what we see (DV) is more important than what we hear (Atmos), because most...

Emotiva MC-1 Review (Home Theater Processor)

I agree with this comment if the person is trained to see those artifacts. Most folks are not, so no matter the screen size - they can miss even the obvious artifacts on any size screen. If this is the limit of your exposure (or space), this is the limit of your perspective. My focus was not on...

Emotiva MC-1 Review (Home Theater Processor)

When your projector has an external processor that does excellent tone mapping, you are in a very dark room with no wall or ceiling reflections, and you have a screen that is optimized for the projector, you don't miss DV. HDR was not a concern here. We were not evaluating HDR my friend, we...

Emotiva MC-1 Review (Home Theater Processor)

This response is a deflection. You have spent an awful lot of time feebly attempting to insult me, but you have spent no time informing us what equipment, movies, and conditions you did your little afternoon comparison. Why don't you focus on that? I don't have golden eyes, I have trained eyes...

Emotiva MC-1 Review (Home Theater Processor)

How does one show definitive proof? Reviews? I can post a bunch of them. Screenshots? Useless, you cannot see fine details or artifacts on an uncalibrated computer screen. Your opinion on KS would be valuable if you had any actual experience with this system beyond a single afternoon. Since...

Emotiva MC-1 Review (Home Theater Processor)

Neither have you, so what is your point? Actually, I don't think they are being critical at all. Just ignorant. You have commented on the system, but don't own it or have ANY experience with it. You have another who compared it to the disc, but there are no details of the equipment used...

Emotiva MC-1 Review (Home Theater Processor)

I have serious issues because I don't agree with your subjective opinion??? Now that is arrogance right there!!!!. If you did a sighted test and knew which you were watching, that is not a legitimate comparison. It is a subjective opinion....nothing more. You are welcome to that, but please...

Emotiva MC-1 Review (Home Theater Processor)

My answer to this question is a no - you could not do it for less money. You would need custom video mastering software, licensing agreements with the studios for content, secure storage and transfer system, encryption and decryption software and the keys to support it, and the infrastructure to...

Emotiva MC-1 Review (Home Theater Processor)

The discussion devolved into stick versus KS, not plex, hex, dex, or anything else. I never referred to what was possible, but how it is actually used.

Emotiva MC-1 Review (Home Theater Processor)

Plex is not a streaming stick, and most people don't mux their movies via plex. They stream them or watch them via a disc.
