    Choosing DIY kit

    1) Not criticizing the Sierra LX, as they look quite good. 2) If someone doesn't have the tools or skills to do DIY, then they probably cannot compete with commercial speakers. But... Sierra LX: $1,548 plus $48 shipping = $1,596 Woofers $400 (shipping is free from Madisound over $120)...

    Choosing DIY kit

"Kits" are usually a way for vendors to make money. CSS kits use CSS drivers. Parts Express kits use drivers that PE sells, and often their own Dayton Audio drivers which offer higher profit margins. Madisound kits use drivers that Madisound sells. An exception was Meniscus Audio which...

    Choosing DIY kit

Of all the recently reviewed speakers on ASR, these look the most interesting to me. They don't go quite as low as the TD1-X, and neither go as low as the Amigas, but they are going to go "low enough" for most use cases...

    Choosing DIY kit

Unless he taking unpaid leave from work to build the speakers, his time is free. "Opportunity Cost" But I'm on the opposite end of the spectrum of many at ASR...I would always recommend DIY as it is easy to outperform commercial speakers that must achieve a profit margin. Commercial speakers...

    Choosing DIY kit

I'm not sure about this statement. The Amigas are more that the Torri's by a good amount, but the TD1-X is more than the Amigas by a good amount. Of the ones you listed, the TD1-X are the best, using far superior drivers. Paul Carmody (Amigas) and the guys at CSS are excellent speaker...

Got my little hands on the Purifi 10"s

Yeah, I'm not saying that is 100% accurate, probably for many reasons, but I do think MKR has a valid point. On the other hand, all of the speakers that I have heard with Purifi drivers have sounded very good and I have a pair that I plan to use by the fall, so I am not a Purifi hater.

Got my little hands on the Purifi 10"s

Not according to results at Klippel, at least with real music. MOST people are closer to picking up between -15dB and -20dB, but a small number of people can detect -40dB. Even those detecting -30dB is quite low. https://www.klippel.de/listeningtest/

    KH150 Purchase - MusicStore.com (Import)

Tax avoidance is legal and I can't figure out why anyone would argue it is moral for someone to pay taxes that they aren't required to.. Tax evasion is illegal.

    3TD-X Inductor Crosstalk Testing

If you are not using the measurements for crossover design then don't worry about being at 1m. Take measurements at 31.5 cm and take them pretty loud.

    Neil Blanchard MLTL-6

Here is the MLTL_6 in red compared to the Elac Carina BS243.4 green with psychoacoustic smoothing. (I choose the Elac only because it was one of the more recent posts, so I was lazy and grabbed the easiest data I could.) The MLTL-6 might be a little "hot" above 4kHz. SPL is normalized at 1.5kHz...

    Neil Blanchard MLTL-6

Can you post the graph with Psychoacoustic smoothing? That 5kHz peak "looks" bad but is quite narrow and maybe not very audible.

My experience with DIY and it's many frustrations that are not talked about.

Did you want to link to anything specific, I see papers on Tube Amps. What exactly in this thread are the white papers going to address, there has been a lot of stuff discussed?

Imagining a successor to the Affordable Accuracy Monitor

I don't find many of the "objections" relevant. If I buy a car (or anything else) that is not as good as it can be and I want to modify it, I don't care what it does to sales, the success of startups, or insults the designer of the car. Why would I care about those things when it comes to...

    DIY Speaker Project 2025

In my post above I mentioned that I didn't look at any Seas tweeters. This one says... "Works for Vifa D25AG05, D25ASG05, D25AG35, D25AG68 (Thiel CS 1.5). This will work for any Vifa tweeter with "25AG" in the number that is on a 104mm circular flange. "

    DIY Speaker Project 2025

The tweeters are 104mm OD which may be the most popular size of tweeter faceplate, so you will have lots of choices. A lot of Peerless tweeters and the Scan-speak Discovery tweeters are this size. If cost is no object, the Scan-speak Classic tweeters (there are 3 slightly different models at...

Small 2-way speakers with linear on-axis and power response characteristics (Scan Speak and SB Acoustics drivers). H&V off-axis measurements included

The most common circle jig is probably the Jasper Jig. Since most drivers are measured in mm, I hear that one is particularly useful. (I've had the imperial one.) It can do close to 2" circle. I've recently switched to the Milescraft circle guide kit.

Dayton Audio DATS v3 | An Absolute Must Have (Video Review)

I used the DATS V2 for years and then sold it and got the V3 when it came out, 5 years ago and it's still going strong. But I'm still a proponent of DIY jigs. https://www.a4eaudio.com/miscellaneous-studies/diy-impedance-jigs-and-measuring-impedance-in-rew
