Where in the data can we see qualities like 'soundstage' or 'detail retrieval'

Thanks. A/B'ing with the bypass toggle there is definitely an audible difference, most notably a taming of the top end. Not that I would have described them as bright before. Will listen for a few days and see how I get on.

Where in the data can we see qualities like 'soundstage' or 'detail retrieval'

Thanks, does this look right? As an aside, the mathaudio window is tiny on a 55" 4k when viewing from the sofa, have to get up and walk over to the screen to read it. All mathaudio settings are default, have just 'imported' the settings from a txt file.

Where in the data can we see qualities like 'soundstage' or 'detail retrieval'

Purely by chance Amir's video Understanding Audio Frequency Response & Psychoacoustics popped up in my YouTube recommendations yesterday. It was quite interesting to learn how the brain averages out differences in amplitude of certain frequency ranges, the width of the range increasing as...

Where in the data can we see qualities like 'soundstage' or 'detail retrieval'

Thanks Jim, good answer. Clearly in the examples given the solid state amp provides a much more neutral and flat response compared with the valve amps, which are all over the place (as you say sometimes by design). The Audio Research VT100 graph probably looks a bit more dramatic that it is, as...

Where in the data can we see qualities like 'soundstage' or 'detail retrieval'

Thanks. It all sounds so simple! So looking at the chart in static v3's post above and applying it to what was traditionally perceived as a 'warmer' sounding valve amp vs a 'clinical' sounding amp such as the Audiolab 6000, that would be explained by the valve amp having a boosted low frequency...

Where in the data can we see qualities like 'soundstage' or 'detail retrieval'

Hi, So I'm totally onboard with the scientific method and the data driven reviews here and on Erin's channel, which are really informative (along with the subsequent discussions). But I'm also aware that whilst some hi-fi speak, e.g. 'lifting the veil' etc are somewhat frowned upon, terms such...

Rega Brio Upgrade to Class D amp?

Haha, yes, good idea about the rug. We do have one between the speakers and sofa. I saw the speaker review and discussion here yes, it made for interesting reading. Subjectively the Emit M10's sound pretty good to me, certainly much better than the Q Acoustics bookshelf speakers I had before...

Rega Brio Upgrade to Class D amp?

Thanks for the responses and helpful suggestions. Regarding the hum issue, the first unit had quite a noticeable hum through the right speaker and even the right headphone speaker. Online information at the time seemed to suggest this was, if not common, then certainly not unusual for the brand...

Rega Brio Upgrade to Class D amp?

I've had a Rega Brio 2017 amp for several years. It's actually the second as the first was returned rather quickly due to speaker hum. The second one has it as well but its less noticeable. Overall, it has a really enjoyable sound, but I'm wondering whether it might be time to swap it out for...
