Onkyo TX-RZ50 Review (Home Theater AVR)

OK, I'm not seeing the timeout on Spotify connect like I was on bluetooth. (I just wanted to use a tone generator to test). I imagine HDMI and other sources should be ok. I know it stays in high V mode, as the temp rises in the GUI. Strange how it reset when the bluetooth source was stopped...

Onkyo TX-RZ50 Review (Home Theater AVR)

Prior to these tests, I think what they have done is made this so somebody like Amir can bench test it and get big numbers but in reality it is limiting back on normal use, which helps it run cooler and probably some global mandatory push to "save the planet". So far it is looking like...

Onkyo TX-RZ50 Review (Home Theater AVR)

OK so neither seem to work. When you dial the volume to -22 or higher, it kicks in, but after a few minutes it drops the rail back again, and doesn't do anything until stop the program, perhaps he sees something over bluetooth and assumes with music, 30 watts or so is enough for cooling and...

Onkyo TX-RZ50 Review (Home Theater AVR)

OK I since discovered that if I stop and start the tones within a certain time frame it does not drop the voltage of the PSU to 4 ohm mode. I tried changing the frequency but it must sense this as the same voltage or something. I'll see if I can vary the output, but I am guessing it will work...

Onkyo TX-RZ50 Review (Home Theater AVR)

OK, so some more playing accomplished this evening, and I can confirm that using speakers and any form of drive, the unit does not like test tones continually playing, so this would hamper and be worse if saturated like Amir's test I am guessing. If I stop the tone for a minute and start it...

Onkyo TX-RZ50 Review (Home Theater AVR)

It could be that and overlooked, but I'm guessing the 4 ohm mode is triggered via current sensing or heat sensing should the sensor(s) see pre-programmed condidions. I would imagine they have done something for the bench testing, but 4 ohm's is definitely forced at volume below -29dB and forced...

Onkyo TX-RZ50 Review (Home Theater AVR)

OK, so initial impressions so far, it would appear to switch HVOL and LVOL (6ohm and 4ohm) rails between -29dB and-22dB at least in PCM mode. I did play a film briefly and that seemed to keep it switched up but wanted to play further. so far Spotify connect is a bit slow when selecting tracks...

    Onkyo TX-NR7100 AVR Review

No switch it to 6 ohms and try the kilo-watt meter. leave zones off, especially if powered.

    4ohm in speaker settings.

    Onkyo TX-NR7100 AVR Review

OK, so it would appear that they have relaxed current sensing, in favour for temperature control maybe. Interesting. Try the same again with a power zone 2 or 3 active, or better still force the 4R in the menu and see what the Kilo-watt-thingy measures then?

Onkyo TX-RZ50 Review (Home Theater AVR)

They can't iterate what it does for compliance purposes. Be interested if anybody in the real world would notice.

Onkyo TX-RZ50 Review (Home Theater AVR)

Sorry, my point being that the RZ-30 already has the feature set that the new firmware gives to the RZ-50, including the PSU sequence improvement.

Onkyo TX-RZ50 Review (Home Theater AVR)

I cannot find a firmware update for this, so if it is tested, and holds out better with impedance load, then it will answer the question I'm sure.

    Onkyo TX-NR7100 AVR Review

Latest Firmware which gives Features amongst other fixes, states in the Firmware Update notes at "Improved Amplifier Power supply sequence". I wonder if this is the fix for benchmarking a 4R load under the 6R setting, mainly relying on temperature control as opposed to current sensing so...

Onkyo TX-RZ50 Review (Home Theater AVR)

I'm wondering if this is to address the "clicking" issue that everyone keeps whinging about. On the older units if the audio voltage didn't exceed 20volts RMS total for around 30 minutes, it would switch the rail down to (guessing) keep heat down, and play a part in "saving the planet", almost...
