Audio Technica ATH-M50X Review (Closed Headphone)

They're not "awful," as much as internet hyperbole would like to think. They're good for price all up (build, comfort, SQ), especially for consumers that simply aren't all that fussed about perfect target compliance. They're meaningfully compliant to Harman but with some nips and tucks that make...

Planar magnetics with the least sound leakage

Love a happy ending! Congrats on solving the debacle and enjoy your new cans :)

    Best Audiophile Bluetooth headphones [2022-12-09]

Throwing the JBL Tune 770NC into the ring. It's a Harman-compliant inexpensive wireless set, been impressed with it over the last couple days. The earlier 710BT caught some airtime here not too long ago for similarly tasteful tuning. The FR for these is quite wacky in comparison to most...

Best 'Bang for your buck' IEM - Poll

If you don't disagree there was no point in saying it. Please understand that if someone recommends a Harman set and you respond with "many of us prefer JM-1 sets over Harman sets," that sends strong discouragement towards those who would recommend Harman sets (which are equally preferable...

Planar magnetics with the least sound leakage

To my knowledge planar magnetics move more air outwards due to the fact their drivers are large magnetic sheets that move bidirectionally. The Ananda's diaphram will be at least double the size of those found in the dynamic driver cans you listed. More sound leakage is generally understood to be...

Bluetooth headphones - looking for sound quality, comfort, durability

I would've recommended the JBL family of over-ears (Tune 710/720BT, 770NC) for their good tonality but they're all-plastic and the comfort is simply okay due to the small earpads and clamping force. Most noise-cancelling headphones can be used without NC, and you may find something you like in...

    New JBL closed back measurements

Just got the Tune 770NC and they sound great, ANC on or off. Not sure how close they measure to the 760NC but there seems to be a slight difference in Rting's measurements and I'm not picking up on any real issues, it's a tight Harman-esque tonality with an appropriate bass shelf. No muddying...

    Moondrop Chu II IEM Review

This sort of argument always comes across to me as audio nihilism. Effectively "everything is guesswork so why draw any conclusions at all." Constants exist and they're not infinitely imprecise. It's not the exactitude many would wish for but I think that's well-acknowledged. My issue is with...

    Moondrop Chu II IEM Review

Are you suggesting that the research is flawed because it reflects badly on expensive products? The targets you mentioned aren't drastically different to Harman and IEMs are usually slammed here for being way off the mark. A bunch of similar targets being similarly preferable doesn't negate...

Best 'Bang for your buck' IEM - Poll

"Under fire" doesn't mean objectively invalidated. Nothing points towards a clear advantage between Harman and JM-1 and some people preferring the latter on an audio forum ultimately says very little. Just pointing out that indeed there's no clear line, so no one should be discouraged from...

    Moondrop Chu II IEM Review

Seems a little like shifting the goalposts from "The methodology at Harman deriving the IE targets is not good enough" if the Harman IE target is actually "one of the best science-based things." If an objectively definitive preference target emerges then let's all get behind that. Until then...

Best 'Bang for your buck' IEM - Poll

JM-1 is promising but to my knowledge doesn't invalidate Harman's IE target nor the research behind it. I also consider it no issue to ignore perceived subjective consensus on an audio forum intended for the discussion of objective audio research.

What headphones would you like Amir to measure next?

It's an annoying problem but I'm not sure that would do anything to rectify the situation. It's probably better if people mention in reviews and comments that a manufacturer should offer replacement part options and stress their disappointment at the lack of this. Create a pro-repair culture...

Best 'Bang for your buck' IEM - Poll

Not sure how you get much better than the CHU 2 for value! Detachable cable, comfortable, balanced and smooth FR. Would've voted for the Zero Blue but the eartips stop gripping the stem after some use and the nozzle size poses a comfort issue. They sound better than the CHU 2 to me though.

    Moondrop Chu II IEM Review

Got these recently, they're a great easy buy. The tuning is eminently listenable, no peaks and just enough bass. Sounds "correct" and fun but not "lush" in the way that something like the HD600 is. Maybe a little plasticky in some areas but I would say only noticeable if you've ever been treated...

    Focal Clear Review (headphone)

Regardless, you are not above the research. You are subject to it, like everyone else here regardless of background. Unless you can back up your claims with something objective that’s as rigorously studied as the target you take so much issue with, you’re simply expending hot air in favour of an...

    Focal Clear Review (headphone)

That’s not how the Harman Target was derived. It corresponds strongly with what we hear from targets that aim to reproduce flat-measuring speakers in a semi-reflective room, targets which were derived from a procedure no less rigorous than what was used to determine the DF target, and then...

Truthear x Crinacle Zero:RED IEM Review

What makes you say that? Have you had some past experiences? Just gauging what I need to be careful of on my own unit to prevent an early scrapping.

    Sennheiser IE200

Competition’s good for sure. It shouldn’t be underrated how predatory the consumer/manufacturer relationship becomes when megabrands dominate the landscape and can sell minimal refreshes for years on name alone. I like Senny as much as anyone but their IEM offerings have been markedly poor...

    Sennheiser IE200

Been looking at these, but some reviews have turned me away from them a bit. Apparently the cable is extra microphonic, kinda garbage and uses a proprietary connection so your only other "supported" option is $99. There's been reports of channel imbalance due to the bassport not being closed...
