Serious Question: How can DAC's have a SOUND SIGNATURE if they measure as transparent? Are that many confused?

There is a long thread on this which starts well and is clear - and then goes off at tangents. Worth a read, especially of the early pages https://audiosciencereview.com/forum/index.php?threads/audibility-thresholds-of-amp-and-dac-measurements.5734/ ( @ahofer beat me to it!)

Serious Question: How can DAC's have a SOUND SIGNATURE if they measure as transparent? Are that many confused?

Not really ... Separate out subjective preference from objective measurement and we're there: You can prefer one DAC over another - that's personal to you and is absolutely fine, no arguments, no problem. Your preference is personal to you though, it's not transferrable and it means nothing to...

    Looking for Amplifier Recommendations

Agree with the above^^ , if you can let us know a bit more about what equipment you already have, how far you sit from your speakers and how loud you like to listen then it gets easier to help. There is a Review Index on this site that should give you some ideas too, and plenty of options...

Power amplifier tests with respect to FTC: 16 CFR Part 432 (July 5, 2024) requirements on output power claims

Hi @amirm Interesting to see this thread lurch towards possible changes to your test suite. I appreciate the challenges and have no real skin in this game - happy to see what comes out, if anything. One question: do you think you could annotate your existing tests to make clear the duration of...

Power amplifier tests with respect to FTC: 16 CFR Part 432 (July 5, 2024) requirements on output power claims

Hi @restorer-john any chance you could publish the findings from your testing here? That would be interesting and a great addition to the information available to us? Merry Christmas to you, and everyone :)

Next Upgrade - DAC or Preamp? What’s the science say?

I know!! It does cut through the 'more expensive is better ' thinking though. I think it mostly beat me into submission, and acceptance that my Ortofon OM20 is good enough :)

Next Upgrade - DAC or Preamp? What’s the science say?

The Ortofon Blue is pretty good, I wouldn't rush to change that - diminishing returns again. Have a look at this to understand more about how some cartridges actually measure ... melts my head, but fascinating insights...

Power amplifier tests with respect to FTC: 16 CFR Part 432 (July 5, 2024) requirements on output power claims

Hasn't the discussion moved on (slightly) to what that continuous power test should be in order to indicate an Amp's capability with real music in the real world? Manufacturers should comply with FTC, but that's for them. I'm swayed by the argument that I don't care if an Amp can handle full...

    Tone control+BT to the system

Gemini is wrong and is talking nonsense! The WiiM Pro Plus has a very good analogue output, fom its very good input options of Bluetooth, WiFi, wired digital and analogue. The ADC in the WiiM is higher quality than a vinyl signal so don't worry about any loss of quality. The WiiM also...

    Amplifier for low sensitivity speakers?

... and now you have good speakers and a nice DAC/preamp! You can go for a pure power Amp - Fosi V3 mono would be cool (you need two) That Aiyima 07 would do nicely too, or something like the Topping PA 5ii Plus. More traditional integrated amps are worth looking at too, plenty from NAD or a...

Next Upgrade - DAC or Preamp? What’s the science say?

Hi, I'm in agreement with most posters I think: don't change your electronics, they are plenty good enough. I wouldn't touch your vinyl setup either, any improvement will be marginal (law of diminishing returns) and not great value for money. The Waxwing sounds like fun though. Definitely...

    Recommendations for a stereo speaker

I had the Audio Pro C5 and quite enjoyed it (little brother of the C10). Although it has three drivers - panda configuration - I didn't regard it as a stereo speaker, but as a nice office sound. I've replaced it with a pair of speakers now which is much better, but I appreciate that you can't...

    Amplifier for low sensitivity speakers?

Hi, The Kef's are nice speakers, fairly normal sensitivity (86db SPL, not low) and shouldn't be particularly challenging to an amplifier. Have you seen this review? https://audiosciencereview.com/forum/index.php?threads/kef-q150-bookshelf-speaker-review-by-erin.31249/ A bit more information...

Time to vote. Where should Amir spend his testing resources?

Speakers please. and electronics with DSP/Room Correction and if the amplifier tests could be extended to indicate continuous power capability and the effectiveness of the thermal management that would be nice too Ooooh ... Cake!!

Power amplifier tests with respect to FTC: 16 CFR Part 432 (July 5, 2024) requirements on output power claims

Is there a standard test (or a useful test that could become standard) that can be added to the ASR amplifier suite that would indicate continuous power capability and the effectiveness of thermal management?

    BASICS of Home Server Setup

My post was incomplete, sorry about that Two separate things; Rather than Bluetooth speakers, have a look at inexpensive powered/active speakers - Edifier MR4 are cheaper, JBL 305p are better. Pop a WiiM mini on them to receive a stream from a WiiM Ultra (~$300) and you have a multi room...

    BASICS of Home Server Setup

Hi, and welcome. Plenty of options, and plenty of more knowledgeable people here than me. What's your budget? One simple solution would be a WiiM Ultra - a streamer and DAC that you can connect your hard drive to and play your music or stream it to any other WiiM device. The WiiM app is pretty...

    DAC for WiiM mini

All the recommended DACs are good - you can pretty much choose one you like the look of. The E50 is a solid choice, the SMSL first linked is cheaper. Going for the WiiM Pro Plus (not the Pro) is a good shout too - you get room correction with that.

    DAC for WiiM mini

The Topping E50 is a very good DAC ... but what features are you actually looking for? That Topping has balanced output - does your Amp accept balanced inputs? (The Topping also has single-ended, so it's not a problem just a bit of a waste). I like a physical volume control - you might not. For...

    Recommendation for DAC

What could a subjective YT test, under unknown conditions and with extra gear (that's not the same as yours) possibly tell you that the review here doesn't? That's a good DAC, it doesn't change the signal audibly. If you hear something 'off' it's not the DAC. Sense check this - think how it...
