Multi-Sub Optimizer (MSO): Lessons Learned, Tips & Tricks

Looks like a pretty solid result for the optimization range. It's great that you confirmed the response with REW versus the modeled result from MSO. They match incredibly closely. One question is whether you tried expanding the optimization range on the upper end. I optimized up to 200 Hz, but...

    SVS SB4000 or SB16 Ultra

If you use something like MSO or Dirac Live Bass Control, it should be able to blend and time-align the subs regardless of ported or not, but you might get cleaner results if everything is sealed. You could also plug the ports if you want to run the ported SVS subs in sealed mode, but you lose...

    SVS SB4000 or SB16 Ultra

So, if you're already using MSO, I'd recommend testing things out as if you have your new subs already. Basically: Take your REW measurements for your existing sub positions (2 existing sub positions x N listening positions). Move your sub to 2 new locations where you plan to put your new subs...

Multi-Sub Optimizer (MSO): Lessons Learned, Tips & Tricks

I think that should be alright, since MSO would be taking care of the most troublesome lower frequencies. The rest of the frequency response shouldn't be quite as position-sensitive, based on the dispersion of your speakers. I think a few REW measurements should get you in the right ballpark.

Multi-Sub Optimizer (MSO): Lessons Learned, Tips & Tricks

I think the best approach would be to optimize the sub response with MSO independently first. Then, run the REW measurements with your mains + MSO subs together and apply the resulting filters to the entire system from your ADI-2. Since the measurements take into account the total system...

Multi-Sub Optimizer (MSO): Lessons Learned, Tips & Tricks

MSO has options for setting the number of parametric EQs available (default is 8) so you could theoretically limit the PEQs that are used in optimization to what you have in your subs. You would also need to set delays as well for the subs, which I'm not sure can be done directly in the AVR...

Multi-Sub Optimizer (MSO): Lessons Learned, Tips & Tricks

Yes, this is done directly on the 2x4HD. It's very easy to do; just remove a couple of screws and change the jumper setting: https://docs.minidsp.com/product-manuals/2x4-hd/additional-information/input-jumpers.html Edit: I think the only real difference is that the level may be attenuated by -6...

Multi-Sub Optimizer (MSO): Lessons Learned, Tips & Tricks

Now that MSO has been updated to version 2.0, it now has a multi-stage optimization type that attempts to maximize SPL while optimizing bass response and seat to seat bass variation. This is incredibly useful, as before, MSO could aggressively EQ/align subs at the cost of overall SPL...

    Revel F228Be Review (Speaker)

So, I received my F228Be and C426Be speakers a week and a half ago, and I've gotten them set up as the LCR in my theater room. They're replacing an old set of KEF R700 and R600c speakers, which have served me well over the years, but they lacked output and refinement/clarity at higher levels in...

    Revel f 208 or Mofi 888

Yes, based on some users' helpful feedback (including @amper42), I went ahead and purchased a pair of F228Be and C426Be for my theater space. The F228Be arrived a few days ago, and they have exceeded my expectations. I'll post some more thoughts on the F228Be thread after I get the system dialed...

Adding a third sub to cancel "Deep Mid-Bass Null"

I used to have a bad null at some seating positions around 70-90Hz with one sub (SVS PC12-Plus) that drove me crazy. I eventually added 2 more subs similar to yours (SVS PC-4000) and used Multi-Sub Optimizer with a MiniDSP 2x4 to get the three subs working relatively well together. It definitely...

    Revel F228Be Review (Speaker)

What a great comparison; thanks a ton for your detailed and thoughtful response! I think I will stick with the F228Be then. I don’t tend to listen at very high levels, they need to be positioned closer to the front wall, and I have multiple subs that should help bolster the low end. I also like...

    Revel F228Be Review (Speaker)

Anyone have thoughts on the F228Be vs. F328Be if the F228Be is half the cost with sale pricing? I have a back order reserved for the F228Be but am wondering if I should spring for the larger speaker. At double the cost, though, it seems unlikely to be worth it. I will be pairing them with the...

Buckeye Amps: Hypex NCx500 Official Thread

I've had my 3 channel NCx500 installed for a few weeks now, and it has been excellent so far. I've always had issues with clarity and harshness at higher volumes when I ran my KEF R700/R600 LCR setup through my AVR's amps (Marantz SR7012). The theater seating position is pretty far back (13-14...

    Marantz Cinema 30

I've been debating on getting either a C40 or C30 to replace my old SR7012, mostly to improve the SNR and try using Dirac. I just started running Buckeye external amps (NCx500 for LCR and NC502MP for surrounds/height), so I would probably only use the AVR in pre-amp mode. I wonder if the extra...

    Denon AVR-X6800H now released.

The S/N ratio is listed for the X6800H as 102 dB; this is the same that Denon claims for the X8500HA. Hopefully, third party measurements will be able to confirm this, but it's probably fairly representative since Masimo knows it's going to be measured. They don't bother listing S/N ratios for...

    Dan Clark Expanse Headphone Review

After reading the reviews here and getting a hefty open-box discount, I recently decided to pick up a pair of these. They arrived in like-new condition, and I've been extremely impressed overall. I have an HD800S that I bought a couple years ago that I run with my RME ADI-2 Pro, and while it...
