What advice you wish you could have given to your younger self or someone new to this hobby?

Of course we can't expect someone who makes 20k a year to spend it all on speakers. I would say minimum 1% of your pre-tax yearly income for speakers is a good rule to follow.

Porsche Soundbar with 911 Exhaust Subwoofer

They are re-purposing a real car part. If you want to buy that muffler for your car it probably costs close to 5k at the Porsche dealer. It is more of a piece of industrial art that happens to have soundbar functionality.

Porsche Soundbar with 911 Exhaust Subwoofer

The design isn't for everyone. But if you have an engine block as a coffee table it will match your aesthetic.

    Sony SS-CS5 3-way Speaker Review

The response is surprisingly flat. I expected even brighter from a cheap 3 way. I think Sony accomplished it's goal. The speaker stands out and has a cult following.

    M-Audio BX3 Monitor Review

I looked up the price in Canada. It's 270 CAD per monitor. Two monitors with tax would be over 600 CAD, or 450 USD. I imagine it's similar price in Australia. Another option is a Chinese class D amp with passive speakers. With passive speakers there is more used options. Although my personal...

Audio science reviewers are not audiophiles?

I am glad ASR is more accepting, but a lot of audiophile communities are like that. But for the sake of argument, if your setup is not capable of producing high fidelity, then how can you claim you are an audiophile? The same question can be asked by subjectivists and objectivists.

Audio science reviewers are not audiophiles?

Anybody can claim they are an audiophile, but that doesn't mean you will be accepted into the audiophile community. To be a credible audiophile you need to have a minimum personal wealth and minimum age. They say you need 10,000 hours to master a skill. The same applies to being an audiophile...

    M-Audio BX3 Monitor Review

If you're looking at extreme budget, MR4 is decent for the price. 1280T was also recommended by amirm. https://www.audiosciencereview.com/forum/index.php?threads/edifier-mr-4-review-by-erin.29844/ https://www.audiosciencereview.com/forum/index.php?threads/edifier-mr4-review-budget-monitor.29068/

    Sony SS-CS5 3-way Speaker Review

They have Cyrillic writing on the back. They are made for the global market, and not designed specifically for US/Western Europe. In most countries the average wage is a fraction of the US. Additionally, when you convert their prices to your currency, they are usually paying even more than you...

    Edifier R1280T Powered Speaker Review

Thanks for the review. What I find most fascinating in this review is that it probably has the highest disparity between measurements and subjective performance. Is it from the equalization or there are aspects of the speakers that the measurements don't evaluate? How is this possible when...

    Onkyo TX-NR7100 AVR Review

Hopefully it will get sold to a Chinese company so we can get good S/N ratio. Not sure if Japanese law allows Chinese ownership though.

    Onkyo TX-NR7100 AVR Review

Post #74 explains the terminology. Onkyo calls the power limiting mode "protected" mode.

    Onkyo TX-NR7100 AVR Review

Why is the protect mode not activated during normal usage? I would think that if the AVR is producing only 15% of the power it would be easy to detect? What is different in the test that causes it to trigger? Obviously Onkyo put in this feature for a reason. They are getting bashed a lot...

PS Audio PowerPlant 12 Review (AC Regenerator)

This is solid logic, but in your DAC tests we see that price doesn't correlate with performance. The most likely user of the P12 isn't looking at measurements probably has an overpriced audiophile amp with mediocre performance. So I wonder what the PS12 would do in a device that is not as...

Prices... am I out of touch?

Correct. If I say Socialist Republic it may not be clear to people that it's a Communist state because there are different types of Socialism. Although historically this term was used by the USSR and the individual republics. It is redundant to say it this way, but I don't agree that it makes it...

Prices... am I out of touch?

Reviewers call it "affordable" because they need to promote higher priced gear. The word affordable is also associated with low performance. By labeling something affordable they are setting the expectation that the performance isn't very good. It's a way to get people to overspend.

    Fosi Audio BT30D Pro review

Have any inexpensive amps implemented this feature? Most powered speakers with bluetooth function have a pairing button. I don't know why it's excluded from amps with bluetooth. Who wants to have their connection hijacked?

Chord Hugo M-Scaler Upsampler Review (Video)

Thanks for the video explanation. A lot of products are based on a flawed idea about how something is supposed to improve sound quality. For example the power regenerators, the idea that "cleaner" AC power will improve audio device performance. What is the idea behind creating an upsampler in...

    More reviews of entry-level AVRs?

Is it worth buying 5 channel now? It seems like 7 channel is entry level now, and 5 channel is built just to meet a certain price point. You aren't just paying extra for the channels but also for the bigger transformer and heatsink. That should be beneficial for even 2 channel mode? The 5...
