Cambridge Azur 640c v2 mini review (CD player)

Exactly. Drive belts are a pretty easy fix, but I'm seeing reports of faulty/overheated ICs, failed solder joints, and failing controls. A shame because the measurements are very enticing.

Cambridge Azur 640c v2 mini review (CD player)

I have been trying to acquire one of these players and there are a LOT of dead ones out there. Well designed, but apparently poorly manufactured. Thanks for the measurements.

Test CD for measurements of CD Players

What is the procedure for capturing crosstalk measurements from CD? I'd like to add these measurements to my previous efforts, and I think it will be highly relevant to my next set of measurements for a dual-DAC setup. Thx

Magnavox CDB-460 Measurements and Review (CD Player)

PS: RCA output for the second CDB-460 is... Right: 2.002Vrms Left: 2.041Vrms

Magnavox CDB-460 Measurements and Review (CD Player)

And here are measurements for my second CDB-460. This was also re-capped and cleaned up, and is identical except: I removed the original filter op amps, soldered in sockets, and have a pair of Burr Brown OPA2132 op amps in there now. I don't think it makes a measurable or audible difference.

Revised measurements here. I'll add a link in the first post to these new measurements for clarity.

Here's a link to the June 1987 issue of Audio in which Walt Jung discusses the CDB-650 and offers some starter modifications: https://www.worldradiohistory.com/Archive-All-Audio/Archive-Audio/80s/Audio-1987-06.pdf I would love to see both parts of the POOGE-4 articles if anyone has the...

Thank you @NTTY I'll give this a try ASAP. Much appreciate your help on getting my measurements sorted.

Magnavox CDB-460 Measurements and Review (CD Player)

To follow up: I'm unable to capture sweeps from CD media reliably with my setup from any CD player. I'm seeing the same rolled off response from every player I've tried to test (other Magnavox players, a Pioneer, and a Yamaha). So there's clearly something jacked up in how I'm doing this...

Yeah I have something jacked up here. @NTTY I will follow up this evening. Thanks.

Magnavox CDB-460 Measurements and Review (CD Player)

@AnalogSteph to be clear, you're talking about the bandwidth measurement specifically, or all of the measurements? I'll have to confer further with @NTTY about my process. I must be overlooking something. Thanks for the feedback, however. I would like to get this sorted.

Magnavox CDB-460 Measurements and Review (CD Player)

I re-ran calibration and did indeed come up with some slightly different results. Most different for the bandwidth measurement. This is curious enough that I'm going to push up measuring my second CDB-460 to see whether there's consistency between them. And here's the 999Hz @ 0dBFS...

Magnavox CDB-460 Measurements and Review (CD Player)

There are some power supply capacitors known to go off on, particularly on the driver board. The symptom is inability to detect the TOC. Unless there's a good reason to do otherwise, I often take the shotgun approach of replacing all electrolytics in any gear 30+ years old. They are all well...

Magnavox CDB-460 Measurements and Review (CD Player)

While I have calibrated the Focusrite, it's possible the calibration was not applied while capturing some of the measurements. I will take another look. This is my first set of measurements so it's okay to assume user error if something looks off.

Magnavox CDB-460 Measurements and Review (CD Player)

This post provides detailed measurements of a Magnavox CDB-460 CD player. Released in 1986, the CDB-460 was the littlest brother of the Magnavox CDB-650, the US version of the Philips CD650. This line of CD players is based on the TDA1541 and SAA7220P/A chip combination and CDM-2/10...

Test CD for measurements of CD Players

The file is actually only 2 minutes. Opening the file in an editor like Audacity shows the contents as just four 30-second tones.

Figured out THD (excluding noise) vs Frequency. Thanks for the pointer @Timmy I had overlooked that note.
