In the USA, I think more crazy stuff has occurred with the more interesting gender (at least during the 70's/80's) due to the convertible SL series of Mercedes. (Nope, never had one, but had friends that did).

None that I would trust (blowing an amp due to a mis-wired cable is usually more expensive than the most inexpensive correctly wired cable).
