    The wealth-building thread

If you let others know when you are about to buy, anyone who buys before you bids the price up, raising your acquisition cost. And vice versa when you sell.

JBL Stage A130 or Arena 130?

If you can afford US $300, you could get a pair of JBL 305P. If you can swing $500, you could get JBL 308P. The 306P is $400/pair. You would probably be pretty happy with 308P. Hard to beat for the price. They are powered, though, so no amps needed, making the NAD unusable, because you...

    Okto 8 Owner’s Thread

According to the latest CEDIA guidelines, my 20’ x 14’ media room should have 9 channels on the bed layer, and six height channels (for the highest quality system). Some of us want to have, say four subs. If you feed all the subs from a single channel, you’d need a total of sixteen, so Okto x...

Yes, the off-axis response isn’t good. Didn’t look at that before.

    New Danley Studio Monitor: TDH-3

You are correct about the smoothing and the scaling. But it does look pretty flat to me. The bass hump is common, and easily EQ’d if it’s too much for the listener.

Would you give the McIntosh MHA200 a chance?

For someone seeking a connection to the past, well, yeah, tubes are a connection to the past. But it costs more to do it with tubes. And the very best solid state performs better. So, if you got money to burn, knock yourself out. But if you’re like the rest of us, every dollar counts, so...

    Apple audio research lab tour

I will complain endlessly about the shortcomings of the user experience with Apple hardware and Apple software. I will therefore spare you my diatribe. This video is an excellent example of main stream media acting as shill for deep pockets. I guess I really don’t like marketing, at least...

Yaqin MC-84L Tube Stereo Amplifier Review

I much agree. This is the strong avoid range. I expect about anyone can easily hear any item on this part of the chart sounds worse than what they typically listen to. That is, audibly worse than almost anything else out there.

How do you connect your devices to a receiver with integrated DAC these days?

ARC is less common on projectors (as opposed to TV’s). My projector doesn’t have it, and it’s from 2022. Most projector people have their various sources routed to an AVR using HDMI. Then the AVR does the selecting between the various sources, with a single HDMI cable running to the projector...
