I have it hooked up to a power strip without a smart plug. I don't need a smart plug since it triggers on from its inputs. I doubt it consumes much power in idle state but probably more than a simple DAC. Even the PA7 indicator light is off when in idle. I'd be mildy curious to find out.

Are these topping updates needed if the DAC is never connected to a Windows PC? Mine is only ever connected to a wiim and a CD player.

I got the VU meter fever. Any issues using the E70 RCA output simultaneously with the XLRs outputting to my PA7 to run this VU meter from Ali express? Will the VU meter read the RCA output with any degree of accuracy? There are adjustment knobs on the back of the VU meter.

It has balanced and RCA outputs to choose from. I had an e30 and now use the e70 in my main system. They are both transparent DACs. For PCM files doubt you could ever reliably tell the difference but the e70 is obviously more premium with more features.
