    Marantz AV8805A Review (AV Processor)

I have no interest whatsoever in scientific control. All I care about is what sounds best to me in my environment with my equipment. To be honest, when these High Definition Amplifier Modules are talked about as buffers, I have very little confidence in some of the posts.

    Marantz AV8805A Review (AV Processor)

I have no idea what "test controls were unbalanced in the opposite direction" even means. All I know is there are balanced outputs, and it goes without saying that the levels of all channels need to be balanced.

    Marantz AV8805A Review (AV Processor)

According to marantz "The AV8805A features exclusive Marantz Hyper Dynamic Amplifier Module (HDAM) technology that provide ultra-fast slew rate, true wideband performance, and maximum dynamic range for optimum sound quality." Is Higher Slew Rate Better? 6 Reasons Explained

    Marantz AV8805A Review (AV Processor)

I upgraded from a Denon AVCX8500B (used solely as a pre-processor) and the improvement in sound quality is amazing. Sure it might not test as well on the bench, but the additional clarity speaks volumes for the marantz* brand. P.S. Probably the improved SQ comes from the slew rate. Could that...

Is there easy way to measure speaker impedance

Is there easy way to measure speaker impedance

Utter rubbish. Denon and most other home theatre stems do phase correction (or alignment if that's your point of view) when you add speaker distances. Annoyingly, Denon and probably Marantz only uses one significant digit when making the calculations to lighten the processor load, so you'll need...

Is there easy way to measure speaker impedance

As was mentioned previously, I also have a DATS V3 Computer Based Audio Component Test System, and it measures impedance over the audible spectrum. Resistance is the impedance at any one chosen frequency and doesn't mean anything. Before I start, I like to fit a Zobel Network across the...

    Denon AVR-X8500H AVR Review

It's not just about price, as there are more channels and higher power output. You can see a side by side comparison and discussion of various differences here.

Audyssey's Next Generation of Room Correction (MultEQ-X)

I can't thank you enough for this calculation. It made a massive improvement. I read that Denon uses the speed of sound as 300 m/sec rather than 343m/sec for calculation reasons, and that's how the multiplier was determined. It seems the speed of sound at 20° C is 344 m/sec. SPEED OF SOUND...

Atmos/DTS:X height channel physical placement in an old house...

I received an answer from SVS that might be helpful. If correct, the Denon would output a flat frequency response. "The only Dolby Atmos certified speakers are the up-firing ceiling-bounce style. The Dolby Atmos spec for this type of speaker requires crossover and baffle modifications to...

Frankly, it's hell to choose an AVR

I love my Denon AVR-X8500H and I won't be changing anytime soon. A lot of people seem to think Front Wide speakers are a waste of resources, but when sound moves between surround and front, it's terrific to have speakers that fill the gap. There might not be any available sources, but the...

Frankly, it's hell to choose an AVR

According to this chart, 8K isn't necessarily a waste of money and resources, even if you can currently only upscale 4k. You do need to be prepared to get up close to appreciate the detail. A bit like sitting front row at the movies, only better quality.

Is there a way to visually compare AVP AVR's Dolby Atmos processing?

Thanks for the head up. The Sony STRAZ7000ES is 13.2 and includes Truly Immersive audio with Digital Cinema Auto Calibration IX and 360 Spatial Sound Mapping. Seems promising, although a bit disappointing as they both must work in unison and I prefer to turn room calibration off. No doubt...

Atmos/DTS:X height channel physical placement in an old house...

It seems like you've made a great speaker choice, particularly if all your speakers are from the same D300 series. Something that I decided to do. Unfortunately, I am still uncertain, as I prefer to turn Audyssey off.

Atmos/DTS:X height channel physical placement in an old house...

Nathan, can you help me with a conundrum? I note the frequency response for Atmos approved speakers. What happens if I use conventional speakers with a flat response instead of approved Atmos speakers with that odd proprietary curve, which was likely only incorporated to create uniqueness, so...

An article John Lennon would be proud of

"wooden logs underneath pianos". That's creative. Isolating equipment has its benefits, so why wouldn't you want to isolate a piano? The legs are likely to be wood, but those metal castors are a concern.

Introducing Illusio Audio and its first product, the Alana loudspeaker

I'd love to hear them, but I'm not sure what they'd sound like behind a screen so I couldn't be influenced by their flashy design. That'd be in a negative way since ostentatious has a negative impact.

    Denon AVR-X8500H AVR Review

I've finally given up on Audyssey and indeed all processing, and gone with pure direct for everything. Speaker distance and levels still seem to be active. Video channels are heard as supplied - generally, 2.0, 5.1, 7.1 or Atmos. The improvement is simply stunning.
