Dan Clark NOIRE X Headphone Review

I see @Dan Clark has posted on this thread so I would like to ask Mr Clark what he thinks makes his headphones worth their price when other cheaper headphones can be made to follow very closely the target curve it seems he his trying to conform to. Do not take this as making mischief or doing...

Dan Clark NOIRE X Headphone Review

Yes, driver size should make a difference as will materials used, cup shape and it's dimensions. As for the ear wax :D I must confess, I haven't noticed this to be a problem if one keeps the ears clean and tested which being music/sound reproduction enthusiasts should have a similar priority to...

Considering moving to Portugal as an ex pat.... input welcome.

That is exactly the attitude that is likely to alienate immigrants to the locals and leave the immigrant little choice but to socialize mainly with people who speak the immigrants language. This is certainly not the way to experience all the benefits of moving to another country. Lots of people...

Dan Clark NOIRE X Headphone Review

Thanks for the review amirm. I just can't see the point in spending £1000.00 on any set of headphones these days when a £25.00 set of ear buds can give much better conformance to the ASR popular house curve, if that's what one is after. I might change my mind if I could hear the DC headphones...

Considering moving to Portugal as an ex pat.... input welcome.

Because with a good grounding in Spanish, many other languages from the Med and South America become a lot easier to pick up. The usual problem for British and possibly more so for Americans is learning how to use grammar.

Considering moving to Portugal as an ex pat.... input welcome.

I have no idea. Some people pick up languages easier than others. Some languages are more suited to your mouth shape than others. Some people don't bother much past very basic and choose to live in areas where many speak the native language of the immigrant. I can't answer this either. It all...

Considering moving to Portugal as an ex pat.... input welcome.

I lived in Catalonia Spain for ten years and I've lived in other countries for shorter periods of time. Many people get caught in a romantic view of moving to another country as can be seen in this thread. You need to be quite clear about why one wants to move as a starting point. You need to be...

    Mechano23 Open-source DIY Speaker Review

What a great find. I've built a few speakers over the years, some from scratch and some from kits. I've often wondered how they perform compared to the pre built commercial offerings. I suspect there are many home built speakers that give very reasonable measurements.

Bands you just didn't 'get' initially

To be honest my appreciation of Beefheart came about through an accident.:) Trout Mask Replica for some unknown reason was on one of the playlists I had set up and I was doing something else when the album came on. After a while of sort of listening I thought to myself, hey this isn't at all...

Bands you just didn't 'get' initially

Captain Beefheart. I liked The Spotlight Kid when it came out. Tried a couple of other albums and didn't bother listening further. Sat down and had a long listen through the speakers one day and my view has changed.

Proposal: Right to Fair Review (RFR) Association

The internet is full of reviewers. There are those who do it professionally all the way to the buyer adding a review to an Amazon purchase; as an example one reviewer saying a particular well thought of single malt tasted like paint stripper. He, I assume, would have to have had some experience...

    Tekton M-Lore Speaker Review

It seems to me that the way to resolve this matter is to do as you have indicated you intend to and take the matter to court. This trading of messages on a public forum with the resultant yobbish contributions from all sides seems very unbecoming in my view. Not only does it not give a...

Feel it in the chest track.

not so much a chest thump but a rather nice bass line.

    Genelec 8020D + subwoofer 7040 or Genelec 8030

I found getting the subs off the floor took the annoyance away. I don't listen loud in my 4m x 3m x 2.2m living room, but I do like a tunefull bass and to hear the pedal hit the skin on the bass drum.

    Genelec 8020D + subwoofer 7040 or Genelec 8030

Genelec 8030C and at least one 7050 sub. I tried 8030Cs without a sub and eventually bought one and then another 7050 sub. It's not what the subs do for the sub bass (below 85Hz with this combination). it's the load they take off the 8030C bass drive unit that made the most noticable improvement.

Spending big bucks on HiFi Audio

KEF Blade 2 Meta review by Erin's Audio Corner

I would like to be able to say I'm surprised at the lack of respect shown to our host, but I'm not. He's invested a lot of money and time in this site which we all benefit from free of charge. He tolerates a lot more than many site owners I know of. The site I spend most of my net time on...

    Classic Integrated Amplifiers!

Not sure if these qualify. Exposure XXV RC. Used this amp for decades. I've still got it packed away. Kit build from Quantum Electronics. Din sockets! The power amp in the picture is the 207DA, not the 202 in the add. Just to put it all in perspective...:p Triumph Trophy 250cc.
