    Sonos Five Smart Speaker Review

As I've recently bought a Sonos 5, I found this very interesting. Thanks as always to Amir. I can report that it plays audio fine from my TV (an LG C3) via a cheap eARC HDMI extractor. The HDMI extractor has a headphone socket and I run a 3.5mm stereo cable from the extractor to the Sonos 5 line...

    Cyrus PSX

Interesting question. The PSX-R pinout seems to be described here (I have no idea if this is accurate!) https://www.manualslib.com/manual/1430940/Cyrus-Cyrus-6.html?page=7 You would need to get a pinout diagram for your lead, but your first problem would appear to be that the lead alone will is...

Integrating a turntable into a digital system

I've just done something similar, I have a Moode solution on RPi4 feeding a Khadas ToneBoard V1, Moode implements Camilla DSP for streamed audio. My turntable (Thorens TD150ii with Sumiko Pearl MM cartridge) feeds a Rega A2D mini with digital audio out via USB into the RPi. Using a "playlist"...

    Any Volumio users out there?

Sorry only just noticed this reply. Not sure what audyssee is and not finding much from a quick google. But basically I can measure my room response with a microphone, load the resulting curve, and it generates compensation in the digital domain to "flatten" the response. Very nice. Paul

    Any Volumio users out there?

I started out with Moode (as a player for a FLAC music library ripped from CDs). I moved to Volumio because it offers free DRC via BruteFIR. Really impressed with this. Running on an RPi3b+ withj Allo DigiOne into Khadas Tone Board. At some point I will dig deeply enough into the code to get my...

    Volumio & BruteFIR related discussion

Good day all. We have established "up thread" that when BruteFIR is enabled, it switches off use of I2S in the playback settings window, substituting use of "<devicename> through brutefir" instead. fed from a virtual sound device as Somebodyelse has described. In my quest to get a Allo Relay...

    Volumio & BruteFIR related discussion

I've not had that experience. I have had it not play music once, but a RPi reboot fixed the issue. It has not happened since. I run a RPi 3B+ though, so not the same as you have. Does the system play music with Volumio in "normal" mode if the BruteFIR plugin is switched off? Do you get any...

    Volumio & BruteFIR related discussion

Hi Somethingelse and thanks again for that really useful reply. I'll definitely check if I've missed a config option, and if not I'll check with the developers if software vol control can be made to work. If I do go the hardware vol control route, I'm not sure I could use the TB tweaks you...

    Volumio & BruteFIR related discussion

Thanks m_g_s_g, good to know I’m not the only one…….and thanks Somebodyelse for explaining why this happens. Do you know whether this way of operating (virtual sound device) imposes any sonic penalty - or should it be totally transparent? In other news, since my earlier post I've been doing...

    Volumio & BruteFIR related discussion

I know I am opening up an old-ish thread here, but it is definitely the most relevant one I can find on these forums. I can install BruteFIR into Volumio, but the "filter creation - experimental" function keeps failing when I try it, the error in the logs is "drc fails to create filter Error...
