    Studio Monitor Upgrade | Thoughts?

Agree on these points, but I also wanted a leaner library to host on my system drive (mac studio). Those Synchron pianos get huge - so that was a factor too. Thankfully I have that setup and a very nice new K800 upright - plus a Shigeru SK7 at the church where I'm music director - definitely...

    Studio Monitor Upgrade | Thoughts?

For that I use an Akai MPK261, but yes - the keybed is garbage. Hence why I want a desktop controller to use for Midi CC channels so I don't have to drag that out everytime I do something that requires more controlled past what the VPC1 allows (essentially everything but piano...lol).

    Studio Monitor Upgrade | Thoughts?

Thanks so much. It is a VPC-1 - really enjoy it (though totally a piano centric controller). I use it with Ivory III (actually considered going with Synchron too, but have always been an Ivory user). When I'm doing symphonic stuff I do have to pull out a smaller controller with actual encoders...

    Studio Monitor Upgrade | Thoughts?

Follow up report - a little delayed in getting the new monitors setup as one of the stands arrived damaged, but Sweetwater was quick to get it replaced despite the backorder on them. Needless to say I am floored!! o_O This is an entirely different level of monitoring from the Focals before...

    Studio Monitor Upgrade | Thoughts?

Well I decided to go with the Genelec 8350s. Having the easily integrated DSP function of GLM really seemed the best solution. I’ll spend some time getting acquainted with them and dialed in - can always add a subwoofer down the road if I feel it’s necessary. Will definitely share some photos...

    Studio Monitor Upgrade | Thoughts?

    Well it's decision time - gotta pull the trigger. These are the current options: Genelec 8340a $3390/pair 8000-400 $530 GLM $263 $4183 Genelec 8350 (open box) $3970/pair 8000-400 $530 GLM $263 $4763 Neumann KH310 $4790/pair ADJ1 $1100 $5890 Which one??

    Studio Monitor Upgrade | Thoughts?

Man - now that I look at the KH150 that sure seems like a compelling option as well. The review here is very favorable for it. Not to mention adding the KH750 sub is like $800 less then the Genelec equivalent.

    Studio Monitor Upgrade | Thoughts?

Guess I should have specified XLR - as that's what I have coming out of Eversolo dac. Like I said in my post above - in this instance I do value the ease of use with GLM. I had looked at Neumann - I do like the KH310, but those don't have DSP. At which point I'd be back to looking at the ARC...

    Studio Monitor Upgrade | Thoughts?

Either that and I through caution to the wind and just go with some like the 8351 or 8361 and be done...o_O

    Studio Monitor Upgrade | Thoughts?

Believe me - I feel that 100% - the 7370 at nearly $4k is kind of bonkers to me also (to get a 12"). I get the value proposition as I have custom DIY 18" 460HO sealed subs with miniDSP in my media room - that's also a lot of work to execute and get right. So, at the same time, I also value the...

    Studio Monitor Upgrade | Thoughts?

Thank you - I am aware of that - but they don't have any solution with balance audio i/o. So that's a no go for me. Bump to the question in my post above - above as that's the pertinent one at this point.

    Studio Monitor Upgrade | Thoughts?

Well the Focals are sold and gone, and I turn now to a decision on what to go with next. Know I was talking about going with the Genelec 8050s but I'm just not sure (it's an old but solid design at this point) . So I'm also looking at the 8300 series hat have the built in DSP/GLM capability...

Most beautiful home studio: Jerry Douglas

Appreciate the shout-out - with any luck I can update the photos with some Genelecs in the background soon. :)

    Studio Monitor Upgrade | Thoughts?

I wouldn't really concern myself with that right now seeing as how it was just released (Feb. 2024). At which point maybe I'd move to Trinnov; or perhaps they might have a more fiscally accessible option in the future. Also, maybe MiniDSP will have another balanced input option available down...

    Studio Monitor Upgrade | Thoughts?

Yes - fully aware of that - but after reading through the dirac thread on here and seeing a lot of the problem reports I think I'll steer clear. I love Dirac in home theater AVRs, but would much rather have a hardware solution on the output side of my DAC - which again really only leaves the ARC...

    Studio Monitor Upgrade | Thoughts?

I see they do have a standalone application for Windows and MacOS - wasn't aware of that - thanks for highlighting that. I wonder what the latency is for the standalone application running in the background? I don't want a solution where I have to insert processing plugin into my master audio...

    Studio Monitor Upgrade | Thoughts?

I'm aware of Dirac, but there aren't any practical options with balanced inputs/outputs. Room correction options in that venue are either software based - I run two different computers: one for video editing and a Mac for music production - so software isn't practical. The only hardware based...

    Studio Monitor Upgrade | Thoughts?

Coming from the Alpha 50s (gen. 1) and iLoud MTMs - both of which were on my desk / nearfield next to the monitor previously - the Twins just don't have the soundstage & detail I was hoping for. Granted the Twins are located about 5.5-feet from me now as opposed to being less than an arm length...

    Studio Monitor Upgrade | Thoughts?

Appreciate this feedback very much. Seems that sticking with using a sub is the way to go. I could easily corner place a sub on the other side of the desk along that wall where the barn door is. While the desk conversation is interesting - don't want to get sidetracked from the primary...

    Studio Monitor Upgrade | Thoughts?

Appreciate the thoughts. I really waffle back and forth between larger monitors vs. the 2way w/sub combo. Practically, if I went with something like the Focal Trio 6 which can be put on it's side - I could reuse these current Argosy stands (plus they have to top IsoAcoustic mount). As the...
