miniDSP Flex HT - Review and Measurements

Just saw your post. Yeah I think it will work. The Apple TV will give you all channels there are (except for height channels). And you do whatever you want with them.

Why Do You Own Benchmark Products?

I like their philosophy. I like the form factor. The looks. Engineering. Performance, obviously. I like to know that I have bought the best there is, that I can enjoy my speakers to their fullest extent. At the time I bought the AHB2 I had Focal Kanta N°1, now I have Diablo Utopia Colour Evo...

    MiniDSP Flex HTx

In that case just download them illegally... cause then you get all the quality and none of the compatibility issues. Jesus. And Paramount+ is impressive in how poor their bitrates are. In Germany you won't even get 4K...

Ok, if you need BR you could add a BR drive to the computer or go this route, true.

    MiniDSP Flex HTx

Yeah I don't get it either. You are going the analog route too, which I'd want to avoid, because the signal is converted to analog, then to digital, then to analog. Also, why go for a device with HDMI then? Just get the Apple TV 4K or, if you're fine with just using Kodi, an Amazon Fire TV...

miniDSP Flex HT - Review and Measurements

Stereo PCM works. Multichannel only if using Kodi (on the one that I used... there are too many models). Every other app will NOT give you surround. So if you want to use Netflix for example, you'll have to use it through Kodi. Which sort of works, maybe, to a certain degree? Depending on the...

High-end passive bookshelf speakers vs mid-range active studio monitors

I own a pair of Kanta 1 and aim to get Diablo Utopia eventually, but the new price is just insane. I mean, inflation happens, but it seems like in France they live through wartime levels of inflation... I don't think other brands increased their prices like that...? Anyway, the second hand...

High-end passive bookshelf speakers vs mid-range active studio monitors

The previous, almost identical Diablo Utopia were about half the price in 2008 or so. That's some serious inflation...

miniDSP Flex HT - Review and Measurements

Oh, I didn't even know the TV would output audio via USB. It would surprise me if that would work, but maybe I can try it.

miniDSP Flex HT - Review and Measurements

I am not aware of any AVR. First of all, why would they (what's the use case apart from MiniDSP Flex HT owners) and I suspect the copyright owners are strongly against losslessly decoding to an encryption free format.

Coming soon: MiniDSP Flex with HDMI input

You can tell it to play the rear channels on the front for example or to extract low frequencies for the sub.

    MiniDSP Flex HTx

I don't think you can tell the Apple TV to decode Atmos. At best it might attach the Atmos metadata to the LPCM stream, which won't help you all.

    MiniDSP Flex HTx

The Shield (at least 2019) does do eARC. And I think you will need eARC, so the TV that passes through the audio needs to have eARC. Samsung does not decode to 7.1 PCM, neither will LG from what I know. I highly doubt any other TV will... it costs money and there is no benefit. All devices that...

    MiniDSP Flex HTx

My HDFury Arcana often tells me that it is getting 7.1 rather than 5.1 or 2.0 PCM. But I don't know if those channels are really utilized, I have a 4.1 setup and don't always have the Flex plugged into my laptop.

Coming soon: MiniDSP Flex with HDMI input

In my case the solution was to reboot the Apple Remote. Now IR is working again. In a perfect world, CEC is all you need. No IR. The streaming box is sending control data via CEC to the TV. The TV is sending control data via CEC to the MiniDSP. For some reason this doesn't work for me... no...

Coming soon: MiniDSP Flex with HDMI input

To check if the ATV remote sends an IR signal or not. If the volume changes while you direct the remote towards TV but not if the IR emitter is covered up, you know you're using IR and not CEC. The AV device doesn't get the CEC signal, the TV does. Or rather, the TV doesn't forward the CEC...

Coming soon: MiniDSP Flex with HDMI input

In the settings of the ATV you can set if you want the remote to use CEC, receiver via IR or TV via IR. I suspect in your case you are using IR... cover up the black part of the remote and try again. For some reason CEC and ATV doesn't work right (the TV receives the signal and says it's...

Did you deactivate Atmos in the Apple TV? That appears to have done the trick for me. Also did you try unplugging everything etc.?

    Benchmark AHB2 Review (Updated Measurements)

While The Powernode sounded harsh, aggressive, scratchy at higher volume. The Audiolab, which is rated at only 2x50 W (vs 2x80 W), at such SPL, did not have any such issue. Neither does the NAD C298, for example. On another system we noticed that with an IcePower-based XTZ metal songs were...

    Benchmark AHB2 Review (Updated Measurements)

NAD is using UcD on lower tier amps, mid and higher tier ones get nCore. For the top of the line they use Purifi. Having had the Powernode I'd say they ought to drop UcD for anything but the lowest tier... I much prefer the Audiolab 6000A over it, so selling an amp twice as expensive as the...
