The EQ on the Pro Plus is actually pretty nice after 20 years without any tone controls or EQ on anything (blame that on Naim)! EQ make total sense given room nodes, etc and I find it adds quite a bit.
I though that most people around here think that there wouldn't be an audible difference between the DAC in the Pro Plus and ore expensive DACs like the ADI-2 or many others?
So after some time without the Virgos and listening in a few stores to new speakers ...
My impression is that the narrow baffle is keyto the disappearing trick. I prefer the scm40s but they can't cast an image like the Virgo hologram. And neither do other conventional speakers. Heard some...
Yes- the ATCs are just more satisfying in many ways. Unless I am plonking myself into the Virgo listening zone, and even then the Virgos were often not relaxed. I always was paying too much attention to what they did- and that was after 20 years. But they could be totally killer. I listened to...
And yet the magic happens; Listening tonight the difference with my new ATCs (which I like better than the Virgos) is dramatic in terms of the imaging trick.
And therein lies the problem. It is very hard to measure what you think is everything and use those data to explain what you experience...
Related to an earlier question about how good is good. Maybe this should be in my external dac / wiim pro thread so fell feee to ll ove it
Real question coming up. This is now the chart topping dac (pun intended) and quite affordable.
do you think there is an audible benedit to using this...
Nah. I had two rels for a while and never liked that. I tried again with one velodyne dd some years later. Just didn't sound together. I preferred them on their own.
Et as
This is exactly right- friends would come over and had never heard such a stereo image projected into the space between the speakers. It's almost disconcerting it's so realistic. So I compromised and lived with anemic bass for 20 years. They definitely do some things better than the...
Really procrastinated- didn't want to see them go. but finally dropped them off yesterday at my local shop. They will sell very fast-in great shape and sound amazing when setup in a real listening room. I tried hard to use them but could not and silly to keep around unused in the basement...
This sounds like the ideal setup for narrow baffles.
My Virgos are absolutely amazing near field- the holographic and disappearing reputation is totally correct.
It's just that who listens like that for 95% of the time. I am tempted to keep them since they have lost almost all value, but I just...

I agree with all of that! I have a room problem and the ATCs do the trick- and I have auditioned a lot at home Here is a test day (I know too close to each other etc). But it's real life!
Don't disagree at all- we did similar testing with different tools back then- and dumped a lot of cables and power supplies and components etc when they all sounded the same, I don't have the patience for that now, thus the desire to understand this site. I would say that I don't have the...
