    Carver RAM285

I'm going to reserve judgement on this one. If it's ever tested here, I'd guess that it's going to test much better than the previous models. Probably will meet its specifications. It seems that this amp was designed in direct response to the negative test results that the 275 received here. It...

Sunfire Cinema Grand Review (5-channel Amp)

Agree with most if not all of this. I first thought these had toroids until I looked closer. It's a difficult amp to work on. It basically has NO protections and can easily self-destruct. It will yank hard on your pre-amp/receiver if you try to power it down first. All that said - a unit with...

    Tekton M-Lore Speaker Review

I bought a set of M-Lore 5-6 years ago. Not sure why? I tried to like them ...... 3 or 4 times I rotated them into various systems. I don't need plots or graphics to tell me they sound like sh!t. Sold them on the bay for less than $200 - good riddance.

Sunfire Cinema Grand Review (5-channel Amp)

Thanks for the review. I read most posts. I have a few comments based on my experiences with Carver and Sunfire amps. I own 2 Sunfire - both very early models for their genre. One is an original 2 channel, the other an early Cinema Grand. Fairly recently acquired. I find the enclosure to be far...

Carver Crimson 275 Review (Tube Amp)

Ouch. I try to do a post-mortem on amps that I work on. This is typically impossible. I usually just assume that if the output is blown, it somehow got shorted at the binding posts. Not so sure here. Your failure sounds similar to the amp I repaired: shorted output transistors including base...

Carver Crimson 275 Review (Tube Amp)

I understand the reluctance of your tech. I'd guess Flannery is the only one with a full set of schematics for these things. The info I have is just a bit more detailed than a block diagram. Schematic bits and pieces for a much newer Sunfire unit. If the tracking power supply section had issues...

Carver Crimson 275 Review (Tube Amp)

New to the forum. I've spent some time on ASR in the past, mostly for the very complete reviews of "lower end" DACs and the like. Thanks for the reviews. I've been following this thread since early on. I appreciate the detail. I admittedly know nothing about tube amps. Reading this thread has...
