Distributed Sub Array (Swarm Sub) Driver selection (on a budget)

I want build a swarm sub array with 1 big subwoofer and 3 smaller ones and wanted to discuss with you guys what drivers would come in handy to do this. What parameters should i be more aware of since the bass is split to 4 subs? I have these Dayton Audio Drivers in mind right now: 12" -...

DIY Speakers tailored for small room

The shape if the hotel room looks very familiar to mine. If this system sounded incredible then I hope that building them will be worth it . I will build the 4 subs first. I heared it’s not hard to do and I can get some experience first.

DIY Speakers tailored for small room

I’ve read the article again (a good read btw) and I realised that I misunderstood a lot of things in the beginning. I initially thought that the front and backfiring side of the cabinet are adjacent but they’re not, otherwise it would mean front and side firing… With my setup the right...

DIY Speakers tailored for small room

I performed the test today: Having one revel speaker in the middle of 2 side walls makes it sound very decent ( even though only one was playing ) Having the second one as a virtual bipolar made it make sound fuller, without messing things up too much :) Hard to come to a full conclusion...

DIY Speakers tailored for small room

Great idea to incorporate the acoustically unused space! After reading both toole and your article i came up with 2 ideas. If very early reflections are less or even undesirable in this particular case then absorb the whole listening area as much as possible (should increase imaging) and let the...

I never listened to speakers with super-narrow dispersion and I doubt that I will like it

DIY Speakers tailored for small room

If the Revels suit this space then room treatment should be the next step to consider, right? for the subwoofers: this is my latest measurement with var smoothing the boosted bass is on purpose but the graph is really ugly (huge 40hz + 150hz dip) i was considering a swarm sub approach with 4...

DIY Speakers tailored for small room

my goal is to have the best sound possible and i think that's mostly possible if one build devices that are perfectly made for the circumstances. Unfortunately one needs a ton of knowledge to build proper speakers than lets say a table... thanks for the compliment, i really love my space :)...

DIY Speakers tailored for small room

DIY Speakers tailored for small room

I want to build some DIY speakers for my small room: (front view to listening position) (top view of room - the black squares are subs. one under the platform and one on the shelf ) Im currently using Revel M16 paired with 2 subs (Yamaha YST SW-160) powered by a Lyngdorf 1120 with its fantastic...

How to improve Clarity (C50) in Bass in (very) small Rooms

I've come across a very interesting thread which states that a C50 in Bass above 10db (even better 15db) is perceived as a tight and impactful bass "A correlation exists and is related to better GD as well and time alignment around the sub-mains xo. Even if theoretically C50 is a metric...

EQing modern speakers to sound vintagelike

Update: i connected my old speakers to my system to measure them and after listening for a bit I realised, that they sound very disgusting hahaha I think I liked them because they are my first pair that introduced me to the hifi magic but the revels sound 100 times better

EQing modern speakers to sound vintagelike

Thanks guys for the quick responses. I tried the harman curve and I really like it (I seem to be a very average person ) cutting 400hz with a narrow q for about -2 db makes the bass in my room sound less muddy and stronger pronounced. My room is still not treated and I’m sitting close to walls -...

EQing modern speakers to sound vintagelike

Hello, I’ve got a pair of Revel M16 connected to a Lyngdorf TDAI1120 where I can quite freely eq my speakers to taste. Before the revels I used some old no name 3 way Studio monitors (fantastic sound, but I was missing some accuracy when listening to baroque music). I kinda enjoy the neutral...

    1 Subwoofer / 2 Subwoofers Measurements

Hello, i bought an Umik1 so i can finally measure where to put my 2 subwoofer and how to setup the phase. With a single sub i have a Null at 42hz and a dip around 85hz. I placed them at the same wall first, but nothing really happened. So i placed one at the front and one at the back wall and...

Wide dispersion near field speaker for hifi listening

I started this thread with following background: My listening room is pretty small. To adress this I bought the Lyngdorf TDAI 1120 that has built in DSP which elevates the sound that is really unbelievable if someone didn’t hear it themselves ( I think it’s because the bass is much more...

Does a speaker like this exist? If not, is there a reason to not opt for something like that?
